Disclosure: I replaced the X axis stepper motor with a closed loop motor and driver. This required removing all the X gantry cabling to refeed into a larger cable guide. I had previously cut off the Z axis AF stop probe and removed the cabling completely during this upgrade.
Prior to the upgrade, on power up, the controller would home X and Y, then ‘buzz’ the Z axis momentarily.
Now the X and Y home but the Z then just keeps raising the bed. I hit cancel on the controller to stop it and then can use the laser. If I didn’t cancel I’m sure it would just continue raising the bed until it crashed the head.
I’m pretty sure I got all the cabling correct, the X and Y work great, Z can be controlled just fine too. It’s just the startup homing I need to disable.
I have tried disabling Z homing in both Light burn and RDWorks, but the controller insists on homing despite all signs saying it’s disabled.
Perhaps the controller’s Enable Homing switch for the Z (or U, in my machine) axis must be turned off.
However, having that switch turned on does not cause my machine to home the U axis at startup, even though the autofocus button on the console works fine.
Try turning it off and see what happens: Edit → Machine Settings → Vendor Settings gets you there.
Apparently Ruida controllers have settings invisible to LightBurn (and, presumably, RDWorks) for functions that should be controlled by the visible switches, but aren’t.
