I’d mention, if it’s at or below the start speed…
OK, I spoke with Omtech regarding low power at low speeds. Since they have replaced all the parts, the only possible problem could be the wiring. They agreed and are looking at swapping my machine for a new one.
So there you have it! How do I mark this as solved?
Thanks for all of your help!
Dale
Turns out things in Community Laser Talk
never get solved …
If a whole new machine works better, definitely let us know!
Will do! Thanks again!
Well, Omtech is shipping me a new machine! Will let you know how it works out.
Dale
How are you returning the original machine?
I plan to use the new crate to pack the old one. Then email Omtech and they will arrange for pickup. Free!
That’s great… My OMTech crate was falling apart on arrival. There was no way I could have used the crate over again.
It was the made out of such cheap plywood, it hardly made the trip here, let alone back to China or anywhere else.
Glad they fixed you up…
Unbelievable!!! See following I sent to Omtech.
I’m afraid I need a new motherboard. Tests run at various speeds and power indicates that at speeds of 15% or less, power up to 50%, the mA meter only reads 2mA. At speeds at 16% and faster, readings are :
20% power 7mA
30% 12
40% 16
50% 20
60% 24
70% 28
I’ve had 2 machines in 6 weeks, I haven’t been able to run any projects, spent hours troubleshooting and am very disappointed. I’d appreciate next or 2nd day shipment!
Dale
We don’t do speeds in percentages, do you mean mm/s?
Did you check the start speed value in the Ruida? As I mentioned before, if it’s set to 20mm/s then at that speed and below it will only do minimum power.
Sorry to hear you’re having this amount of frustration, this is abnormal.
Sorry i meant mm/sec.
Funny thing, the day before, i was able to cut 1/4 inch baltic birch at spped of 7mm/sec, power at 28%, no problem. Next day, different story as i wrote to Omtech. And yes, i ckecked the wire terminatons between the LPS and Ruida. I also tested resistance to see if wire was bad. All good.
Jack can you elaborate on your earlier response?
Probably, if I knew which earlier response you’re asking about.
Sorry, this is the earlier post. in machine settings, my machine’s start speed is set at 15mm/s. If I want to cut 1/4" material at slower speeds as Omtech indicates (7mm/sec in their manual, can I set this value lower? 5 or 10 mm/sec?
Dale
If you reference post #41 of this thread you’ll find a graph I made with is how it appears to work.
If you run <= to the Start Speed, then you will only get minimum power.
The problem you run into, and this is generally only vector graphics, is that the head may go much slower than anticipated to cut/engrave something, like a star point, and you want to be able to use as much as possible of the range of maximum to minimum power.
I think mines at or below 5mm/s, but can’t remember… I’ve seen these set at 20mm/s
Yes
Thanks Jack! Your post plus another I looked up from Rick solved my problem. At 7mm/sec, I set both max and min to 28% and it cut through fine!
Dale
If you set both max/min to the same value, then the start speed isn’t used. If you’re vector cutting, when the speed changes it won’t change power output.
Glad you got it figured out.
Is there an article that discusses these settings, in greater detail?
Not that I know of … if you find one let us know…
I think it’s more live and learn with these. You can find a Ruida manual to your machine, but it isn’t going to tell you a whole lot and it’s usually in some kind of strange Chinglish, which is better than my Chinese. It’s usually directed at the hardware, such as wiring or how their software (RDWorks) works.
