Air assist isn't working

I have only had my Omtech 80w since May of this year. Mild usage so far. My air was working fine till i shut it off in light burn for some cuts i needed to do without the air. Now its no long working. I have check all the lines, and made sure air was on in lightburn. What else’s could thus be. New to all of this.

Using a voltmeter check the output of the controller driving the solenoid.

It has to be enabled in the controller, but you must have done that to have it working previously.

Does your machine have air assist installed? My OmTech just had an air pump that was installed and uncontrollable via Lightburn. If so make sure the air hoses are snug with no leaks and the pump is running. Mine was wired directly to the power rail and not to the controller.

Yes has air assist installed

I dont have one of those meters so i will have to buy one. I dont even know where to look on the controller for the air assist. It was installed on my machine when i got it and work right for the start. The only part I turned off was in lightburn.
Soooo confusing

Unfortunately I can’t tell if you’re an electronic wiz kid or what… Sorry…

There are only a few led indicators on the controller, generally only the limit switches and water protection.

If you wish to use a multimeter, we can sure get you going and it would help your understanding of how it all works… if you are interested…

I’m doubting it’s a software issue, I know of nothing in the software except the ‘toggles’ that you have pictured in the layers menu.

Air assist can be implemented in a number of ways and we would have to know more about how it’s ‘wired’ up to get much further. Maybe some else has an idea…

Good luck

Are you able to hear the solenoid toggling on/off when running the job? Have you checked all the electrical and pneumatic connections for power/leaks?

I followed the lines earlier and this is where it goes to.
In the picture its the top one bottom 2 wires.
I am a bit techy, and learn easily.

That would be the laser tube power supply. See if you have something that looks similar to this.

If it’s an air problem, you might follow the air line to where it’s generated…

Does it run?

I did that and thats why i say no air is coming out of the compressor

Is it running? Usually you can hear or feel it…

It seems to be. It is Vibrating

Can you check it at the head?

Can you control the air manually? It would be more easy to troubleshoot…

If it’s not an obstruction in the head you might have to remove the tube at the compressor… it would indicate that the compressor has a problem. There is a pretty low chance the tubing from the compressor to the head is plugged… you should visually check it.

No obstructions in tubing. When i remove tube from compressor no air comes for it. Im pretty confident it is the compressor. But what would be the reason if it is running

It’s broke.

These are about as low cost as possible… I’d take it apart and see if I could fix it, but I don’t know about you. It’s known by various terms but LRU (lowest replacable unit) is a common one. The lowest cost item you change out…

If that’s new, I’d contact the vendor… they might do something…

Good luck

Are you in the states? I have that exact pump I pulled out of my machine you can have. Just cover shipping. Or it’s a good time to upgrade to a controllable air assist with an air compressor.
