Aufero Laser 2 doesn't move on second job

I have only had my Aufero 2 and I’m mostly testing out settings for cutting different materials.
to do this I start by configuring the suggested settings on the Ortur website if the material isn’t cut, I then keep the same settings but just run one more pass and continue until I cut through.

This means I’m cutting several “jobs” in a row. the issue I’m having is that when I start the job again, the laser turns on, but doesn’t move. It just starts burning a hole.
The only way that I can get it to work on a subsequent burn is to disconnect via the port selector dropdown, reconnect AND click the frame button. after that the laser will work fine for the current job.
when that’s complete, the same thing happens.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? I’ve been looking though the forum, but it’s kind of hard to search for this.

I might have miss diagnosed the issue.
It seems to just do this every now and then. it sometimes starts a job, movers the laser to the starting point, stops and turns on the laser at very low power.

same fix. stop the job (and return to origin), disconnect and reconnect with the port selection dropdown, run frame and start job again.

after more trial and error, I believe this is the error I’m getting

ALARM:3

Reset while in motion. Grbl cannot guarantee position. Lost steps are likely. Re-homing is highly recommended.

so no tips/ideas at all? or am I posting in the wrong forum?

Your specific symptoms are just very odd. At least they’re not familiar to me.

Perhaps @OrturTech can provide some insight.

This error mostly implies /connection lost / rehoming necessary

What we need to understand is what causes it
Lets start with basics
In console please type
$i and post output please?

here’s is the result of that and also a few steps I did.
what I did is in between asterisks and the resulting console log is below it.
I failed to get the same error again, but will post the console output when I run into it.

next step was to turn of one of the two layers and run the job again and I did get another issue. the machine moved a tiny bit x and y and started pulsing the laser on and off.
the error suggests it detected movement of the machine somehow;

I think the main issue you have is you disabled homing?
So when you load machine first time it loads in GRBL locked mode
Proved by alarm 0
If you press STOP button once, it will unlock
Then it should behave normally

Error 2nd is this
[SC7A20:(405) Shock and Movement detected! Check TroubleShooting Section in User Manual.]

You can adjust the treshold of the shock sensor by typing
$262=750
press enter
You are triggering just at the default value

thanks, i’ll add that setting. I disabled homing since the aufero 2 doesn’t have homing swiitches and I read somewhere that I should do that.

I also managed to trigger the issue where the machine moves to the starting point, turns on the laser and stops moving. this is what the console has:
<Idle|MPos:0.000,0.000,0.000|Bf:35,15871|FS:0,0|Pn:P|CL:0,100|PS:2,1>

Apologies - fingers wrote faster than brain could think
of course Aufero 2 has homing disabled
The procedore to unlock on first connection is valiud the same
1 click stop button → Unlock grbl

I would sugest though if you can please try this firmware update
https://ortur.tech/firmware/AL_Series/AL2_Firmware_Release_1.87.zip
PDf with instructions inside
Because i am seeing a failure on a multiple pass so i am assuming vector

had some time to update the firmware today and play around with the machine some more. this seems to work a lot better with the 1.87 version and always hitting stop when I first startup the machine.

thanks for the assistance.
