Avoid a fill in a box 3" x 3"

I have looked at this:How do I invert (negate) a vector engraving?

I do not understand it. To make it simple I want to create a box shape 3x3" and put the word TEST in the middle. The 3x3" box shape would be filled and the word TEST would be avoided.

Put the box and the text on the same fill layer
