Blurry with the exact same settings

So i am engraving metal business cards which are in a template and masking taped down to confirm they dont move.

I have the exact same settings, one comes our perfect and clear and the others come out blurry, normally the first one is the clearest, i tried turning off my machine and leaving it a while and back on.

It always seems to be the same part of the design, also doesnt make a difference if i make the design smaller i get the same.

this makes no sense.

I forgot to mention I have Sculpfun icube Max Pro 10W

You appear to have play in your machine. Go through the following guide, paying special attention to the set screws on the motor pulleys.

Seems to be an actual lightburn issue, when i restart lightburn and try again then its fine…

I have also tried disabling bidirection but it seem the laser still engraves left and right…

Is it restarting Lightburn or just waiting for a time period? Does it respond the same if you use LaserGRBL or using Sculpfun app?

Cant get LaserGRBL working as it uses an older driver, i would need to uninstall and then reinstall it. but yes seems to be something weird with Lightburn, im currently using a trial version which should not make any difference.

I have sent you a Direct Message if you are able to help a bit more?

@MikeyH I believe you have this same machine. Would you be able to step in and help?

Happy to…

Take the top off the machine, set the power to 0.5% and watch it run. From whai I see, there are two possibilities, both mechanical.

  1. The gantry rollers are loose.
  2. The gantry is catching on the wiring somewhere.

Your second image shows a double burn only on one side. That is why we are calling it mechanical.

I have 3 Sculpfun lasers. Lightburn works fine with all of them.

Quit messing with LaserGRBL. It does not support the variable power mode. And you added another problem to cloud the issue.

Google iCube isken diode-wiki. @misken is the undisputed Guru for all of the Sculpfun machines.

It will still go back and forth, but just burn in one direction.

I forgot to mention @thelmuth is my Lightburn software Guru.

I cant take the top off its got wires all conected - this is very badly designed, only had it around a week and broken already

I have absalutly no idea what im doing or how i know if something is lose or where to check or tighten or anything, this should not happen for something i just brought…

tightened some bits now it actually looks worse…

Here is the latest…

Now it looks like a scan offset issue. Try running it with bidirectional off now and see if it’s better.

Still a bit lost on what setting i should change or adjust to get it right…

Double click your layer and the layer settings dialog should open. Turn off Bidirectional fill and run the job. If I’m correct, the fuzziness should be gone. Then we can work on helping you fix it.

That worked great but took 3 times as long

OK, now we know it’s a scan offset issue. This Doc explains how to address it.

The iCube should not need Scanning Offset. Please tell us:
Speed
Power
Material

You may be trying to operate the machine outside its performance envelope.

Things come loose in shipping. No easy fix for that problem.

Maintence is an integral part of owning a laser, or any machine for that matter. The top is held down by 4 metric cap screws. They even provide the allen wrench for it. There are no wires attached to the lid. Removing it is the first step if you purchase the air assist option. It is also what you do to clean the mechanism.
