All we can do is give you our opinion, but in this case we’ve posted visual proof of what we’re saying. You also supplied two videos, not of a co2, both of fiber lasers.
You did see the posted photos of the engraved rocks? … did these vendors give you any photos to compare them with?
Did you search Youtube for videos?
Take note of depth and the time involved, many are sped up.
Thanks so much jkwilborn for taking the time to answer this… It wasnt that I was doubting you, or anyone else here, I was just so confused with the conflicting information. I will forcus my search on fiber laser’s from now on
I know Ive already been warned about buying from Alibaba but Ive checked this company out and they seem to have good reviews, and are on Alibaba Ranked #1 most popular in Laser Marking Machines
Anyone heard of or had any experience with them? Company Overview - Luoyang Bing Yan Laser Equipment Co., Ltd. (alibaba.com)
$3100 Seems like a good deal for a 100W JPT MOPA M7
Or, would it be worth finding out if there’s any deals and pay extra to go with the 2.5D-JPT-M7 But I guess this one will have the motorized z-axis, and you have said here it will therefore not work with lightburn, but can you please confirm this as I am been told it will?
Decisions… decisions???
One thing to bear in mind when buying a fiber galvo is that you may well feel the need to buy additional lenses, the following, already mentioned in this thread is worth noting
That is correct to my understanding from what I have read the ezcad3 board is completely encrypted and bjjcz will not release their source code so as of now lightburn will not support anything with an ezcad3 board aka any galvo laser with a motorized z axis.
You need to understand how this works… This sounds like you’re slamming the Lightburn developers for this. Many controllers don’t have open source or available source.
If you want to slam anyone make it Beijing JCZ Technology Co., Ltd. as they refuse to tell anyone about any of the products control or setting codes, it’s expected to be driven with JCZ software and they don’t care about me, you or Lightburn.
The Ruida, EZCad2 and EZCad3 (commonly known as EZCrash) are all encrypted. The Ruida has a swizzle for each model. I’m pretty confident none of the encryption method or any control codes are provided by the Chinese…
If I understand the development process, each supported board version is developed by watching the data stream and figuring out what is happening.
Climate today between China and the western world is a cold war, just like in the past, they won’t tell us anything more than they need.
Lightburn developers had added a couple galvo boards to the list and they say, which I believe, they are working on it. Not to mention support for other Chinese products, such as the xTool P2.
Again, contact Beijing JCZ Technology Co., Ltd., explain to them you need support for Lightburn development and I’m sure they’ll get back to you with what you ask for in a reasonable time frame
I give a great to the Lightburn development group and staff for the great software and support they have now… no thanks to China.
Idk how you got that out of it… I only said that because I just asked about ezcad3 support on Facebook the other day and lightburn told me that’s why there is no support all I did was repeat what they told me.
Not once in that whole post did I slam lightburn and I do understand how this works I’m not a god level programmer but I do have coding experience as well as hacking experience so I understand how encryption works as well.
That’s why I said bjjcz encrypted the board I didn’t slam lightburn anywhere in that whole post, how is that lightburns fault?
They have no need for the source code or the actual hardware schematics… what they need it how the software tells it what to do… They are tight lipped about how to control it.
I took the above as it’s Lightburns fault and found it rather an offensive wording as I know they are working on a using the EZCad3 hardware…
You have to give them time … because it’s virtually a hacking type proceedure to figure these out.
Yeah I get it I use to run Ubutnu myself almost exclusively but it got to the point most of the software I would use for various things was only windows compatible and WINE did ok with some of them and others were a train wreck.
I use to have a dual boot setup with Grub but now a days when I need to use Ubuntu or Kali or whatever I just run it in virtual box it makes more sense that way.
Ubuntu is probably my fav version of Linux personally that I’ve tried and for a while there I was trying all of them out. Ubuntu is definitely the closest thing to windows as far as being user friendly goes.
Hi just jumping back a bit to me the noob trying to figure the very basics of buying an entry laser engraving machine. I took on board, or at least tried to take on board everything you guys have been advising. I was almost tempted to get the MOPA from bing yan laser equipment, because of their #1 ranking status on alibaba, and felt that I would maybe have a little more security buying though such a platform vs direct, but after a lot of talk mainly over whatsapp with them. I have to say they gave me a big red flag, because they told me they only sell complete machines, and would not entertain it when I wanted two additional lenses from them, so Im pretty much back to searching again. I did check in with Richard at OMG and he seems ok its just the price I found a bit too much… but hey ho… perhaps i will end up getting what I pay for… anyways just wanted to give an update on this
I feel your pain, I looked around for ages before I finally ‘pulled the trigger’, I bought direct from Cloudray in the end (not Cloudray through Amazon).
I contacted them direct and came to a deal, no import duties, an extra lens and a D80 rotary.
Thanks for the link to Hoation, waiting on quote from Cloudray, and one other supplier
Hows the Hoation 60W looking, and do you have any recommendation for the extra’s?
I use my rotary, but it’s not required and you can pick one up later or elsewhere.
This is my preference, you’ll have to decide if it fits what you’re doing or going to do.
I’d suggest you also get a longer lens. If you get it for 300x300mm area, it would include a longer lens, and it better include a taller column… Mine is 800mm, the one in your quote is only 500mm. Or just opt for a taller column for the price they stated.
A short lens, like what he’s suggesting, has a smaller spot which means the same amount of power is in a smaller area. You do need to know the shorter the lens, the shorter it’s depth of focus (dof).
I have an F100mm, it’s so short the galvo head is very close to the work piece and it a bugger to focus. You also can’t get your head in there to see the framing very well… so for coins I need a jig…
Along with it’s dof is less than 3/4 of a mm…
I use the F254mm for most of my stuff. This is a good lens. I suggest you get a least one more… or have two a short one and a long one.
From what I can see and understand here is that the rotary is part of the deal, and they are offering either one for rings, or one for tumblers, which I would think a tumbler one would be better, but not sure?
Regarding the lenses, maybe I am mistaken but I think they are offering with this deal two lenses, as its saying one free? my understanding with lenses so far is that the smaller the lens, the more it will concentrate a stronger laser beam, but perhaps Im wrong? so I was thinking for a minimum 300x300mm and a 70x70mm, but perhaps a 150x150mm also so that everything is covered?
Regarding the tower, I get it that an 800mm tower would be better, but its stating the 500mm tower is motorized, would you think this is correct, and if so, will this work with lightburn? Also, would it not be just as good to get an extension stand for the tower?
The other important thing with a possible purchase is Im not sure if it would provide more protection with a credit card payment method vs bank transfer, as they are saying it will be roughly 2.99% extra on the total?
If they do a fraudulent deal, not getting something or not working, your credit card company should just remove it off your bill…
Then it’s up to credit card people to deal with the vendor.
Bank transfers just ensure the other party gets the money. I doubt a bank transfer will give you the same kind of protection as a credit card.
I have an F420mm, F160mm, F100mm and an F254mm, which I use the most.
You can have a manual switch to move the head, or you can have one that the computer moves the head. Lightburn can not currently control the Z axes… That only works with an EZCad3 board, which is not yet supported…
The motorised Z is nice, but I’d see if they will make a motorised 800mm column.
If you get a long lens, it up about ~500mm from the table… if you put a 100mm rotary in there you need the extra height of a tall column …
I have difficulties with short lenses, the dof is about 0.75mm and you can’t get your head in there to line it up… Power wise, it’s the same power just in a smaller area… We can’t create or destroy energy…
