Can someone look at the attached file and tell me how I can close this shape? I have tried just about all of the methods to get this to close. I feel I am just missing something very basic. The shape is a rectangle with a line through it. I am trying to join the line to the rectangle Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

There may be a fundamental definition gap in understanding of closed shapes. You have an existing closed rectangle. You have a single line (open) line. These two things can never be joined directly to form a closed shape.
A closed shape is comprised of a single unbroken loop of joined line segments. The rectangle fits this definition. The line does not. Joints can only be made between two nodes. This means that there are no 3-node joints. That means there’s no way to connect the line to the rectangle to form a combined closed shape.
I’m not certain what you’re trying to achieve with the design but one strategy could be to have the top apparent rectangle be a single closed rectangle and the bottom apparent rectangle be another single closed rectangle.
Thank you for the response. I understand what to do now.
