Hello,
Our device is no longer recognized via USB connection and shows Disconnected in Lightburn. We are unable to send jobs to the laser. This error appears in Device Manager:
Machine: Boss Laser HP3655 Controller: I’m unsure which of these are the controller, or if both are controllers. The first is marked as FTC 61 series and the second is a touch screen which only has BOSSLASER printed on it. Trocen-AWC is what is listed in Lightburn, I’m unsure whether this is the Device or the controller or other. Photos attached.
Lightburn Version: 1.4.03. I believe this has been intentionally not upgraded to the latest in order to maintain use of the purchased license. Desktop: Dell Precision 3460 running Windows 11 ver. 10.0.26100 Build 26100.
A similar issue happened before but was resolved, as best as memory serves us, by updating the driver. I thought we had to fiddle with COM ports before but I’m also finding info that indicates that they do not apply. AWC7813 Connection Issues
We have rebooted the desktop and the laser many times. We are connecting with a known good, 6ft USB cable and have tried other known good cables with no change. Driver CH341SER was recently downloaded and installed with no change. We have uninstalled and reinstalled Lightburn. We have disabled then enabled, as well as uninstalled AWC USB device via Device Manager and scan for hardware changes with no change.
We have tried connecting with the device as listed in the Lightburn devices menu which was previously working, and tried to connect using the Find My Laser button which finds nothing.
In another help thread which I cannot locate now, someone suggested the USB Selective suspend setting, but that setting does not appear in the Control Panel menu.
Here is the debug log: LightBurnLog.txt (64.9 KB)
We would very much appreciate guidance on this matter.
Your screenshot shows that the drivers for your device are not yet installed. If LightBurn identifies your laser as a Trocen-AWC, then this is where you can find the driver that you need to install on your computer for your controller:
Thank you. After installing, the Trocen controller USB driver at that link has restored the connection.
I am regretfully no longer able to find that path which led me to the CH341SER driver, so I’m now unsure whether it is even needed. I suppose I’ll have to sift through Event Viewer logs to try to find a clue as to why the driver had apparently uninstalled itself.
This is the page from which I was originally attempting to find the required drivers. The section for Trocen has no download or link, only the somewhat cryptic suggestion “Might need to install LaserCad to get Trocen’s driver.” Can you help me understand what I need to be looking for on this page to stay up to date with drivers and how one would find their way to the page that you linked when searching for needed drivers? I attempted several Google queries with related words and phrases (Lightburn drivers, Boss Laser, AWC USB device drivers, Trocen, controller, etc.) and looked through several pages of results attempting to find this driver but the page that you linked never came up. Of course I will save the link, but knowing how to find it would also be useful
You’re welcome! I’m glad it worked for you! All I did was google ‘Trocen-AWC driver’ and Trocen’s page came up first.
“Might need to install LaserCad to get Trocen’s driver.” -This is because most LaserCAD software is associated with Trocen laser cutting machines, so the driver is usually referred to as the “Trocen controller USB driver.” So in short, it’s just another way to install the driver needed by your laser controller.
From what you’ve stated, ‘We have disabled then enabled, as well as uninstalled AWC USB device via Device Manager and scan for hardware changes with no change.’ - I think this is how the driver might have gotten uninstalled.
As for staying up to date, I can’t imagine that the driver would be changed or updated anytime soon. Your laser manufacturer or the controller manufacturer would be the best party to ask regarding driver updates.
Interesting that I searched for the same thing and did not see the same result. Oh well.
Perhaps it would be helpful to include that link there along with the message about the Trocen driver? Re-checking the other links there, I see that the link to the CH341SER driver that I mentioned is the one listed there for Diode lasers, so that’s how I got to it. Apparently I was trying whatever I could find that looked like it might be a match since the one I needed wasn’t returned in a Google search.
FYI, disabling/enabling and uninstalling/reinstalling the AWC USB device was all done after the issue surfaced. When I first sat down to troubleshoot the machine which was not being seen by Lightburn the AWC USB device not installed message was already displayed as such in Device Manager. This indicated that the driver was already missing, but since I thought that we already had the correct driver installed (since it had already been installed and was working for several months, and because I installed the only one I could find that looked to be a match) I perceived that it simply wasn’t working for some other reason. Probably got scrubbed in a Windows update if I had to guess. All documented now so it’ll be an easy fix in the future if it happens again.
