I recently received my Kickstarter Daja S6 5w fibre laser. It seems to work in all respects except one - it doesn’t actually engrave. The laser is in focus, you can see/hear the galvos marking out the engraving area, the speed and power are at optimum settings, ie 10mm/s and 100%. Any thoughts? It doesn’t work with its own software either and I am getting zero response from Daja. I think I have a £700 paperweight. Thoughts or guidance gratefully accepted.
Did you try a search:

Maybe some can help you.
Yeah, no one else has posted about it.
Which suggests theirs are working. That puts it in a settings or mechanical failure situation.
Read through all those posts. There may be something in there that is a clue about a setting to help solve your issue.
Just took delivery of a Daja S6. Everything looks ok but it isn’t engraving. Anyone with any thoughts on the matter? Cheers
Not much to go on here.
Duplicate posts are discouraged because the replies are hard to find.
The laser connected to software fine, the main laser works in as much as it visibly marks out the design but it doesn’t engrave.
I tried looking for other posts but couldn’t find any.
In this one, @parsec gave you a link to a bunch of Daja 6 related postings.
Hi. None of those posts relate to the Daja S6.
True, but they likely use the same controller boards and software. From what I read, the S4 and S6 differ only in size and power. However, I do not have a laser of that brand, so my usefulness has reached its end.
Possibly, thanks for the input.![]()
I merged the other comments into this toppic and unlisted the other one.
@formwurx
Did you try the machine with the software that came with the laser? That would be the “BSLApp”. They have it hosted here.
This is the easiest test to rule out any hardware issues.
In LightBurn, did you import the manufacturer’s config file, as instructed in their manual, and on this page?
If you still don’t get a marking:
- Which Material are you using?
- Are you at the correct focal height?
- Which Cut Settings (Speed & Power) are you using? Please share a screenshot.
Seeing this now. This suggests either a focusing problem or that you’re using a material that can’t be engraved with the fiber laser. The 1064nm Infrared Laser won’t leave a mark on wood, or white paper.
Please feel free to send us a few screenshots of your device settings and cut settings so we can see what you’re seeing.
Oh, and: Is the lens cap still on? (I’ve been there myself, trust me)
Hi
Yes, did all of that. All cfg files are correct for Daja’s own software and for lightburn. Laser is focused and is drawing on the metal plate but not engraving.
That pretty much rules out software as the issue.
How are you focusing the laser? If you haven’t already, I suggest doing a focus test by ear, as explained on this docs page:
TL;DR: Move the Z Axis up and down while a job is running until you see / hear the stongest effect.
At 95% power, 500 mm/s, it should leave a mark on most metals. Are you saying, you see the laser firing, but it’s not engraving deep enough?
Pictures of the result on material (If anything is visible) could help us understand.
Daja advertises that the laser can be powered by a power bank. If you’re doing that, I recommend using the included power brick first to rule out the possibility of an insufficient power supply.
Another guess:
The machine has a status light in front. In some video, this lights up green. How does yours look?
