Running a creality falcon 5w
Material: basswood (the stuff it comes with like 4mm)
Software:lightburn
Computer: MacBook Air
I’m not sure why this is happening…
I also have flashed any software because it never said anything about it? Didn’t know if this model even can do that with its small and simple interface. If i trace the images it’s fine but whenever I go to engrave any kind of photo it’s like it looses it position and cracks out. I haven’t been able to find anything on this anywhere. I’m just uploading Gcode to my stick and putting it in the engraver. I tried to hook it up by usb but ended up short circuiting the machine and had to get another circuit board.
Have you always had this problem and did you buy your LightBurn directly from LightBurn?
Yes, even when I used the trail version it did the same exact thing…
…did you buy the program directly from LightBurn?
Yes, when the trial period ended it directed me to lightburn for an activation key?
I will rephrase it slightly: did you download the software from the LightBurn site, or did you use the one provided with the laser?
Some people have issues with the software provided by the laser manufacturer.
Anyway, it is better to get the latest version from the site.
Reduce speed by 10x and adjust power accordingly. Do the results change?
Not sure how connecting USB would have short circuited the machine but it was almost certainly an anomoly. I’d suggest trying to get USB working as going through removable storage is painful and will limit the value you get from the software.
…I haven’t seen Collins powersettings at all, they look very wild, you captured that nicely!
Creality Falcon (the 10 W version I own, at least) can engrave images at 6000 mm/min (it is the maximum speed of the laser).
Now, it is worth a try at lower speed, to eliminate a possible source of problems, indeed.
That’s just what it set out when I was doing that I never touched the power levels. Like watch
I’ll do a test burn right quick. I reset all my settings in light burn and downloaded the latest firmware from the lightburn sight. I bought lightburn yesterday from the application which redirected me to the website.
I went to google and search up HD Photos of puppies and pulled a .jpeg off the internet. First picture is the settings it auto gives me.
I feel dumb now… after resetting lightburn in its entirety the problem is gone… I guess when I first got it, it decided to poop the bed……
Now that you’ve reset it, please post another screen capture.
I’m not certain the origins are the same between the Creality Falcon and LightBurn the way it was set.
Once you’ve put the GCode on the USB Stick LightBurn can’t see the starting position. If the output is inverted or appears to be rotated 180 degrees the origin setting is suspect.
Did you run at 100 mm/min as shown in the screenshot? If so, that could be the entire reason for the change.
Having said that, try higher speeds until it fails. Your machine should be able to get to at least 6000 mm/min without losing steps.
If you do, that implies a mechanical issue that needs to be addressed.
Will run another test at 6000mm/m weird thing is the other engraver I had did the same thing… which would imply that atleast this particular model has multiple flaws.
Initially yes I ran a test at 100mm/m at 75% which seemed to do fine then I decided to up it and see what would happen… it started to pull to the left which I suspect it the motors skipping?
Motors losing steps is possible. But first check belt tension. Make sure they’re properly taught. There should be no slack but also not stretched.
