Help with burning image onto black drinks tumbler

I have played with various Adjust Image settings and decided that Stucki was the best. However, having difficulty in finding the best settings to get close to the original image. I would also be interested in opinions on alternatives to Stucki. I did a material test and the values shown for the burn parameters are the best that I got with my L8 40W laser.

There is a great video by Laser Everything on photo engraving. Although done with a fiber laser, it’s very comprehensive and the process works for any material with any laser.

I made some progress, at least to the point where my client is happy. I found that I could make progress by inverting the image, ie. swapping blank & white. Then I played with the settings & the result is attached.

If you’re doing something on a black surface you can only etch white, so most of the time you need to invert or use a negative approach.
