I messed up. I bought a second laser. Have been using Rudia laser and LB for years. After adding Atomstack diode laser with GRBL, everything has changed.
I still use the co2 rudia laser for most everything until I learn the diode laser better. Now every time I open LB the laser is defaulted to the grbl. Once I put it back to the rudia laser, weird things are happening. Because it has messed up the settings so bad in the laptop that is used only at the lasers, I now have to carry a laptop back and forth to the shop.
The speed and power settings are staying the same as the grbl and not the rudia even after choosing the rudia laser in LB.
I now have to change the speed and power settings for every layer each time I open a new project.
I have learned to hit frame as soon as possible after getting everything reset. If the frame is moving super slowly then I know that the settings did not take effect.
At that point I have learned that usually, it will work the next time if I do the following.
Shut down LB. Unlplug the usb from the laser to the laptop. Turn off the laser. Restart LB. Switch the laser in LB from Atomstack (gbrl) to Laser 1 (Rudia). Plug the usb from the laser to the laptop. Turn on the laser. Reopen the previous project in LB. Reset the speed and power settings in all the layers. Hit frame. If it frames at the correct speed than all is usually good to go.
Also I have learned that if a project was created while the laser was set to grbl laser and saved in the art library, when it is opened with the rudia laser from the library every thing is upside down and out of wack and must be recreated.
The main thing I need right now, is to get LB to default to the Rudia laser (laser 1) when the program is opened.
I don’t want to but I guess if needed I will have to delete one or the other and buy another laptop to dedicate them separately which also means having to transfer over 1,500 files and over 30 art library folders.
Setting a default laser is easy. In the laser panel click the devices button, select the laser you want and click the make default button.
As far as the speeds changing between them, I have experienced a similar situation. I have found if I go to the settings menu> Units and Grids and change the units back and forth between min and sec a couple times it works properly.
Thank you very much. I have opened this multiple times to reset and never saw the default tab.
That did set the laser I need as default but I guess all my speed and power settings of the last 9 years will now have to be modified everytime I open a saved project as they are staying at some weird settings after installing the gbrl laser.
Again, thanks.
The settings, including which laser was used, go with the saved Lightburn design file. At least, that is how mine works.
Hi Willie- Gene from the RDWorks board. Are you still using the gantry powered rotary? Mine is still used and my Daughter and Grandd… still use theirs
Hey Gene,
Yes sir. In fact it is still the only rotary that I use on the same old laser that I hard built it to.
Good to hear from you.
