Intermittant connectivity

I have the use of a Falcon 2 22w. My coworker bought it and has not been able to use it after a year or so.
I run a MacBook Pro Sequoia 15.2
I think this may be a problem of my own making. I set up in the basement cut a couple of pieces and was in awe. And looking for clean air…After moving to my garage again I set up and cut a couple pieces. The computer comes with me into the house as it has other uses. Next set up in garage and nothing but words to the effect “device is busy”
I am offered two usb connections and the wifi which the laser does not have. Neither of the offered connections work, cannot move , home or anything, pressing the cut arrow results in the busy indication.
The puzzling part- when I was connected and cutting, the usb connection was listed as cu.usbmodem123456 I have not seen that before or since.
Any thoughts on maybe I deleted something? Suggestions very much appreciated.

Many have found connection problems with Mac and their laser to be an issue with how MacOS translates, or rather doesn’t translate the onboard USB 3+ to the USB 2.0 of the laser. The most common solution seems to be using a “dumb” USB 2.0 hub connected though a Lightning adapter. Faulty, cheap USB cables are another source of problem for Mac and PC users alike. Get a high quality USB cable, with the ferrite core on the ends and a USB 2.0 hub and see if that solves your issue.

Another possibility can be found in this thread.

My MacBook pro has the T2 driver. I discovered this while trying to install the ch34xvcpdriver.
No joy. I used all sorts of combinations of cables and hubs to no avail.
I reinstalled Lightburn reset the computer back to original settings. nothing.
What really puzzles me is that it did at one point run the laser beautifully.
I may dig out an old windows machine and try that, though I really like the portability of my laptop.
