Figured you fat fingered your controller type in the title… I changed it to grbl…

Good, making progress!
@berainlb might be right about the Yaxis button direction. I don’t remember mine accurately now. I just went thru a full reset because Homing and direction control was wonky. That is what I get for ignoring the CNC for 6 months!
I too am in the “set coordinates” zone, so we will be traveling this path together.
I have no idea why it went nuts. I unplugged the 3018 and plugged in the S30. It had not been powered up since.
I say build a small box, speed =2000, power =1% and see what happens. Use Frame first, then Run.
I passed my rectangle test, how you doing?
it worked but way left of center. My lower work area shows 0 0 on the screen but when i put the laser there is says X= -9.0 ; Y= 3.8. I can’t type neg #s into the Go To button. Also my Fire Button is not showing. I feel like we’ve made much progress thanks.
found the fire button enable.
Get Position boxes in the Move window? If so, enter $10=0.
You working in inches?
True. You are in the +X+Y quadrant. This is where Lightburn has to work. You can use NEG if you enter a G91 or Current Position for the Origin, which puts you in the incremental mode. I suggest you stay with Absolute Positioning for a while.
Edit, Device Settings, Enable laser fire button.
Absolutely! You are welcome.
Mark,
Do the $$ thing, then copy-paste all the $$ parameters to a text file. Then put that in a safe place. Printing a paper copy is good too.
Use the machine settings gui to import and export values… it makes less mistakes.

Mike, tried the absolute thing and that worked fairly well except I couldn’t tell the laser where to start; always stayed in the lower left corner. Did the G92 code stuff, but need to do that with each project and hitting stop during framing jettisoned the coordinates. Tried the current and user and they worked, didn’t really see the difference, Marked my work area and placed the laser in center. I just ignore the coordinate showing in the move window. Apparently the software doesn’t know where the laser is when first turned on? And the workspace doesn’t reflect where the work is on the actual machine? However I’m in a place where I can start making model rocket fins for grandkids! Are there any good tables that tell how many passes and power cut various thin wood sheets; like 1/8" Basswood? Limit switches are on the way. Thanks very much for ya alls help! Grandpops

If all axes are working correctly. I would move laser to home position and in console type G10 L20 P1 X0 Y0 then enter. That should set your home position.
If you are talking about wherevit starts the burn, no, the software decides that.
True for both. They have to talk to each other to know who has what. I put the laser where I want it in relation to the wood. Then I move the drawing to be in the right location, using the red (show laser position button) cross as a guide. Then I do a Framing to make final adjustments. You will soon develop your own method.
Not really. Depends on a lot of things. The best plan is to use the Materials Test. If I read right, you have a 3w laser. I can give you what works for me at 10w. Use these suggestions with a pound of salt.
3mm ply (1/8")
750mm/min
40% power (correction 70%)
4 passes
Air assist (If you have it)
Do the math if you have more or less power. Less speed is more power. More % is more power.
They did not mention it when you bought the machine, but there is a lot of trial and error in this hobby.
Have fun!!!
Not sure what that does? Is that permeant fix or for each project? Thanks,
Each, but usually once on the Materials Test for each batch of materials.
Mike, does LightBurn let you designate cutting on the line, just outside or inside? If not, what would allow for the width of the laser?
That should set that position as home.
D - set a spot permanently and where is home? Or do this each time I boot up? Thanks
If i were a drinking man… Fire button shows but does not fire.
What is the power set to?
You don’t have homing enabled so I assume you position the laser by hand in one of the corners so you then want to make that the home position.
Fire Button working again. I guess LIghtBurn doesn’t like being opened twice. Appreciate the feedback. We have some fairly precise fit ups on our model rockets, what allowance should I make for width of the light? Or can I tell the laser to cut outside the line or inside? Have a Blessed Sunday, Grandpops
