Thanks, I found this on page 16 of the Lightburn Doc; can’t find where it says the laser Watt. My wood has arrived for model rocket fins and centering rings. I’ll be setting up a cut test and will share results. Probably early next week. Thanks again.
Hey guys, finding out my 3w doesn’t do much. I think I may have scratched the glass on that part that screws off, the part bottom that focuses. Is there someplace that sells replacements? .Thanks again.
The Sculpfun S30 Pro lenses (hooray Amazon) are 7.98mm diameter. If yours is not real close, I expect you will have to contact the seller of your machine.
5w is better, 10w is even better. If you have a good focus, the main difference is traveling speed. You just have to run a 3w machine slower, that is all.
My ply cutting with 10w is rarely less than 3 passes, so do not think yours is inferior because it won’t cut thru in one pass. I don’t run mine at full power to help the diode last longer.
Thanks, attached is picture of my focus knob. It is a 7.98mm dia and can be replaced by removing a small O-ring. But I can’t find just the lens or even the whole threaded part with lens. Thanks all for your help!
Nobody mentions focal length, so a correction to the focus distance might be needed.
Here are the fins for my grandson’s model rocket, Dragon Wing. 3mm Basswood, cut with a 40w laser; 2 passes, 550mm/m at 90% power. Nice clean cut. About the same for 1/4’ plywood only 5 passes. Now I’m really having fun! Thanks Mike and all for all your help getting here.
All says welcome! Having fun is good!
By the way, those fins look more decorative than functional. Or did you discover a new drag-reducing concept?
OpenRocket gives good flight characteristics but with a warning about jagged edges. We shall see; we’ll stand well back at launch time! Thanks.
I think they meant saw edges. Supposed to stand way back anyhow. I did Model Rockets once too. Potassium Perchlorate and sugar is awesome!
