Is it possible to relocate Limit Switch and Home to rear of Ortur?

I have the 20W Ortur LM2.

I just purchased the new enclosure from Ortur. I am looking to possibly relocate the limit switch and homing position to the rear either left or right.

  1. to allow projects easy access in and out of enclosure without hitting the laser
  2. I added a laser shield and it hits the front rail prior to touching limit switch.

Anyone willing to give me a breakdown of how to relocate the “Home” and utilize the limit switch to the rear ?

I think this would work fine. As far as steps:

  1. Relocate switches
  2. Reroute cable to reach switch positions
  3. Set GRBL $23 to necessary homing direction
  4. Enable work offset to account for coordinate changes resulting from new homing location (G10 command)

I can help you with correcting settings for 3 and 4 if you determine where you want to locate the switches.

@berainlb Thank you for that fast response. I apologize i am pilot so i was out of town the last few days.
I have decided to relocate the switch to the REAR LEFT corner. Switch has been moved and wires have been extended. Any step by step you can provide for the rest would be most grateful. Thank you for your time and your wisdom ! Very much appreciated !

Sounds like good progress.

This all assumes you have the Laser Master 2 (not pro or other). First, take a backup of your configuration in Edit->Machine Settings.

You will need to invert the Y homing direction. Default is $23=7 but you will need $23=5.
Enter in Console:

$23=5

Since you’ve changed the homing direction I’m assuming that the laser believes 0,0 on the top left with negative coordinates if you move down.

We’ll shift it so that bottom left stays 0,0. We will also need to have the machine report work position rather than machine position. Enter these into Console one at a time.

G10 L2 P1 X0 Y-430
$10=0

After doing this run a homing cycle and test if bottom left is 0,0 and that movement is as you expect. You may want to start with the laser head in the middle and get ready to pull the power if things go south.
