Jagged edges Sculpfun S9

I still haven’t solved the jagged edges problem. I completely disassembled and cleaned the frame of the Sculpfun S9, replaced the MGC on linear rail. I reassembled and adjusted the frame according to the instructions. I still have a problem at speeds higher than 1000 mm/min. I was thinking that the problem might be with the motor control. Is there a way to change the step function.

Hi @vizer40

Are you referencing this post you made before when you said, “I still haven’t solved…”?

You’ve mentioned cleaning and reassembling the machine, but there’s no mention of checking belt tension, pulley set screws, belt–pulley tooth engagement, or general mechanical preload. Issues in any of those areas can cause exactly this kind of artefact, even if the machine feels “mostly OK” by hand.

You also mention the linear guides / wheels (which you referred to as “MGC”), but there’s no feedback yet on the belts or the stability of the diode head itself.

With the machine powered off, try moving the head slowly by hand along both X and Y and note any tight spots, slack, or uneven resistance. Also check that the belts are evenly tensioned and that the motor pulleys are secure on the shafts.

Dominic, yes this message is related to my message from October 2025. When assembling the frame, I followed the instructions here: Guide to mechanical adjustments and maintenance . I also successfully did a 45 tilt test. When I move the laser head by hand, I don’t feel any oscillation and it travels smoothly in both the x and y axes. Where could the source of my problems be, belt tension or eccentric nut? How many kilograms should I adjust the belt tension with? As I understand it, the eccentric nut eliminates oscillation in the y axis. Could my problems be caused by an overtightened eccentric nut?

Hi @vizer40
It won’t surprise you to learn I do not have that level of granular knowledge into the Sculpfun S9. What happens with a simple square and horizon and vertical lines? Have you tried running slower?

Horizontal and vertical lines are OK. Now I do all projects at speeds lower than 1000 mm/min.
