Laser keeps shutting off

hi every one ,ive had my laser for a few moths now all was going great until iave had problem with the usb not being recognize by my laptop, so I decided to set up via Wi-Fi it was working ok until new my laser will just power off in the middle of a work. it won’t even last 5 minutes. could this be an issue with the mother board? I’m not a tech guru so please explain in English so i can understand. thanx

You may want to look into the USB timeout on your laptop’s power management settings. Disabling it will prevent your laptop from turning off USB communications if it thinks that there has been no activity for a certain period of time.

Try this
Unplug the laser head cable, run the job the same way
it wont engrave obviously but will it finish

also
$i in console
Copy/paste the whole output here please

I have the same issue with my Ortur LM3 (release 210)
On WiFi, will run for about 5-10 minutes then power off.
Lingering problem that improved a bit with each firmware update and support replaced the motherboard, power supply, and wire harnesses but I needed to get work done so I just use the USB without any issues.

The newer units come with release 211 and haven’t heard of any issues over WiFi with that version, but the release is not available as a download.

211 has zero difference on firmware except a rename from 210 to 211

ok i think i have tried that. If i put other device or usb and it works fine that could mean the problem is with the laser itself? could it be the usb port on the mother board of the laser machine?

so, I unplug the cable and still it shuts off. It won’t even last for 2 minutes. i have checked about grounding issues I don’t know if it’s because of grounding problem that forces it to shut down. it’s so frustrating especially when you have work to deliver. The $i you mean write it in Lightburn then copy the codes it sends back? I tried it and it doesn’t write back anything.

When the machine shuts off, it FULLY shuts off and you mut pwoer it on again?

take a picture of your pwoer adapter label also your USB port on the machine

output of $I yes , what it spits out copy/paste it here
it MUST output somehting if not it means you not connected to machine

Thanks for the info Gil!

A couple of buddies bought the same machine about 6 months ago and told me they were at 211, so I figured it was newer

My laser would essentially crash the motherboard. All lights out and no fan. Pressing the power button as with a cold start would recover.

I replaced my power supply with a bench supply (24V at 12.5 Amps) to no improvement, same with grounding the module to the frame and earth.

If I had to guess, seems like a network buffer overflow that is causing the MB to crash.

can you tiple check your machine settings in Lightburn are on
GRBL and not any other controller

Also deactivate Gcode Cluster temporarelly to be sure if that could be the case

but… something feels odd
Unsure of your envorioment but try taking machine elsewhere entirelly in the home/workshop and run a set of jobs without laser head (to be safe)

Starting to think you might have some envoriomental EM things going on

yes, when it power of i mean it shuts down totally and I have to press the button to power it on again.
