Lightburn won't hook up to MECPOW X1

I cannot get Lightburn to connect with the MECPOW X1, it is saying the laser is a fiber laser, it is an Infered/10 watt diode

I have mine connected as GRBL and it works fine.

Build the Device Type manually. Easy, fast, and it usually works.

I don’t understand? I am new to the laser world, not sure what you mean by Build the device type manually. Can you explain? Thank you

Under the laser panel click on “Devices” in the next window you’ll see, I believe the second button is “Create Manually”. A list of machines will show up. follow down to see “grbl GRBL”.

I hope this helps. Have fun!

Thank you for your help. I have it downloaded onto Lightburn, but it is telling me Port Failed to connect. I am sure it is something simple that I am not doing. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Several things must happen to connect. Follow the steps listed here:

If it does not work or you do not understand the terminology, please let us know.

It’s me again. I still can’t get it to connect to the port. I have two diode lasers connected to Lightburn, could that be the problem? Thanks

Depends on how they are connected. You can run 2 instances of Lightburn, using New Window to open the second copy.

You cannot use an expander hub into a single PC USB port. You must use a second USB receptacle on the PC for the second laser. It is an MS Windows thing.

Yup, what Mikey said. :+1:

I have the Mecpow X1 also. Its a great little dual source laser and has been a delight to operate!

Just FYI, a fiber laser operates in the infrared spectrum (1064nm wavelength), which means it it’s a IR laser. For some reason once they drop below 10 watts, the industry stops calling them fiber lasers and starts calling them IR. Infrared is just referring to the spectrum it operates in.

In fact, technically speaking, a CO2 laser is also an infrared laser. At a wavelength in the vacinity of 10,600mm, it is far Into the infrared spectrum.

Edit: 10,600nm
