Longer Laser B1 40W Will not Home Correctly, Goes to Back Left

Longer B1 40W having issues with homing properly. It’s going the opposite direction to the rear of the laser and when it reaches the side it just skips and I have to turn the machine off. When I put the laser head in the home position manually, restart Lighburn, and the try and home, it will re-home and stay there. When I try to just do a text sample and then do a frame, it goes another direction. Please advise

You are giving contradicting info. If Home is not front left, say where it is located.
Place the head away from he Home position about 50mm in both X and Y, then power up the laser. This is so you are not on the switches. Now hit Home in the Move window. Be prepared to hit the off switch.

Where does it go?

Sorry for the confusion. So I’m starting Front Left, and if I hope "while touching the limit switches, it will bump back and move to home like most laser I’m familiar with will do for Absolute Coords setting. I just did what you said, moved it off the limit switches and then Homed it and it started moving all the way to BACK RIGHT - opposite direction of Home (Front left)

I was able to get the laser to home in the right corner, Left Front by modifying $23=4. The issue is I think things are reversed somehow. When I use the Move buttons, down arrow makes it go to the back and left arrow makes it go to the right. If i try and Frame, I get an error this error. How can everything be reversed? Thanks in advance for all the time and energy to help out

The error if I try and Frame:

I think set this one back to its original setting. Try setting $4=1 (step enable invert). Your fix will be in the $2-$4 area. I say this because both X and Y are backwards.

ok, reverted $23=4 back to 3 - It’s not homing correctly after that, I’ll hold on while I keep trying things. $4=1 didn’t allow it to jog any direction, reverted that back to 0 - changed $3 to 0 and only X+ starting going in the right direction. Had to change $2 as well to 1 to get X- to job left … Y+ and Y- are still reversed though.

I just went to machine settings and looked at Output setup. Y Direction pin invert ($3) was sent to False. Appears this might have been an issue with the Console conflicting with the Machine Settings defaults in Lightburn? I don’t know but that fixed the Y direction and it is homing correctly now. I am going to keep testing and monitor. Thank you for putting me in the right direction.

Which direction it moves with a given command from Lightburn depends entirely on how the manufacturer wired the machine. It is not a default conflict.

Sounds like you are on the road to recovery.

Ok, so maybe it was wired incorrectly. The wires all have the labels on them so it wasn’t something I did myself with assembly. So far so good on my current burns. I learned a lot this go around. My other laser basically worked out of the box so took some effort with this one.

I would not say this. I suggest it was wired differently. That is why there are all those $$ parameters in GRBL. This allows setup for a variety of machines.

Sometimes we get lucky. Except for a single parameter, mine (S30 Pro)also was ready to go. My 3018 CNC was a nightmare, and again when I added the laser.

I take it you are up and running as it should. Post a project with pix when you get a chance.
