Material Test Not Actually Engraving

Hi,

I’m realtively new to Lightburn and Lasering. I’m trying to run a material test, I’ve got it all setup however when I run the test, the laser doesn’t engrave the test squares? It engraves the axis and scales no problem, they look great but the actually squares don’t show up? I’m wondering if there is an issue with the “material setting” – do I need to adjust something in that menu, currently the Speed is 6000 and the Max Power is 25%? Any help is appreciated.

What kind of material and how many watts of optical power is laser?

The Laser is 20w and the material is 3mm MDF

Can we get a shot of your material test window?
What does preview window show?

No problem, here are two shots

This would be image #3. Preview - That little TV looking button at the top.

Also, was the laser light visible when doing the Material Test squares?

If you’re trying to engrave you will need to put it in fill mode.
Also in cut editor make sure output is turned on.

Hi,

@MikeyH Good catch on the “fill” mode, I will try that out

@Dskall The preview mode is showing the squares, there’s no issue with it.

Appreciate everyone’s help, I will try another test tonight and see what happens.

Double check that your S Value in Device Settings matches your $30 value in the console. Open the console tab and in the command box type $$. Look up and see what $30 is showing. Make sure your S Value Max matches that numbejr.

Most newer lasers will be set at 1000. If your $30 is 1000 and your S Value Max is 255, you’re only running at ~25% of whatever power you tell it to run. Since the default values for the text on the materials test is high power and slow speed, the text may have worked while the speeds for the boxes were too high for the reduced power.

Hi all,

Thanks, I believe it was the “cut settings” that was the issue, having the mode as “fill” seemed to correct the issue and then dialing in the line interval. Thanks again,

Thank you for your post, learned a lot!
