MillMage Licensing and Pricing FAQ

MillMage is here! Have questions about its price and licensing structure? We’ve got answers.

How much will MillMage cost?

Like LightBurn, MillMage will be split into two packages, Core and Pro. MillMage Core will be priced at $99 USD, and Pro at $199 USD.

MillMage Core is our option for beginners and hobbyists, containing all the features that most users will need, including:

  • A rich, fully-featured design suite for creating, editing, and laying out graphics.
  • Tools to create, manage, and export CNC router operations.
  • A powerful interface for directly Jogging, Zeroing, and sending jobs to your CNC router.

MillMage Pro is for experts, businesses, and anyone whose work requires advanced tools. Pro will come with everything in Core, plus additional advanced features, including:

  • V-Carving
  • Relief Carving
  • True Nesting
  • and more!

We chose this licensing structure to allow beginner and hobbyist CNC users to utilize the vast majority of MillMage’s robust feature set at an accessible price, while offering premium features only to those advanced users whose work requires them. It’s the best way we could think of to make our software as affordable as possible, while still keeping the lights on.

As of now, we cannot provide a timeline for the release of Pro or any of the individual features listed above, but we’re working hard to get them all out soon.

Can I add MillMage to my LightBurn license?

No. MillMage licenses are entirely separate from LightBurn. When you buy MillMage, you’ll receive a brand new key.

Can I buy MillMage and LightBurn together as part of a discounted bundle?

Now you’re talking — yes, we intend to offer bundled pricing for purchasing MillMage and LightBurn licenses together. We have not yet decided on a price for bundled purchases.

I already have LightBurn, can I get a discount on MillMage?

We will not be offering discounted pricing to existing LightBurn users.

Just as with LightBurn, we have already priced MillMage as low as we can, leaving no room for us to offer further discounts — unfortunately, we have bills to pay too. We are proud to offer high-quality software at an extremely competitive price point in this space.

Can I try MillMage before buying?

Yes — we offer a 30 day unrestricted free trial, so you can test out MillMage and make sure it works for you.

Is it a subscription?

No. Just like LightBurn, a MillMage license is perpetual. When we say perpetual, we mean perpetual — permanent, forever, everlasting, eternal, until the heat death of the universe.

If it’s not a subscription, why does it have an expiry date?

Your license comes with a year of free updates, starting from when you first activate it. After a year, you can renew your license to continue receiving updates for another year. If you renew your license early, you’ll get an extra two months on top of the standard year.

If you choose not to renew, you will always be able to continue using the last version of MillMage released before your license expired.

How many computers can I activate MillMage on?

A license comes with 3 seats, meaning you can install MillMage on 3 computers at one time. If you need to transfer an activation from one computer to another, you can free up space by deactivating a given computer, either in-software, or by using our License Portal.

If you’d like to activate MillMage on more than 3 computers, you can purchase additional seats for your license on our website.

Can I use the same license key on any operating system?

Yes, you can use the same key to activate MillMage on supported Windows and macOS operating systems. Current versions of MillMage run on the following operating systems:

  • 64-bit Windows 10 (build 1809) or later
  • macOS 11 or later

Do you have V-Carving and Relief Carving?

Both V-Carving and Relief Carving are coming soon in MillMage Pro! We have made significant progress on these features and have working versions ready. However, both still require several rounds of polishing, optimization, and testing before we’ll be ready to release them, and our full MillMage Pro version.

Why did you release MillMage without Pro features?

We decided to release MillMage Core ahead of Pro so we could get Core out to the public as soon as it was ready. Core has all the capability — and more — that many CNC router users require, and we didn’t want to hold it back solely so we could finish up Pro features that those users don’t need.

Why did you split MillMage into Core and Pro?

We chose the Core/Pro pricing model so we could offer a more affordable option (Core) to users that don’t need the premium features in Pro that take us considerably more time and work to develop.

Any Linux/Ubuntu plans ?

Not at this time.

Are you going to make some how-do docs/videos to help bridge over users of LightBurn into MillMage? On the same topic, how about people moving from VCarve or Easel+UGS?

Yes - our docs are available here:

and you can find our video releases here: Video Releases - LightBurn Software Forum

Helping people familiarize themselves coming from other software is definitely on our to do list, but we’re focusing on the core content we need to have first, before doing the bridge content.

Please reconsider this. Users who have been supporting you for years and now want to have another software should also have a discount, just as new people buying a double software bundle.
Thanks!

Just my opinion and with respect. If the prices are kept low and remembering that the idea of a company is to make a profit and pay employees, keep the lights on etc. The only way to offer a discount is to increase the base cost. That would mean that new users to MillMage who have never owned a laser machine would basically be paying for YOUR discount. Being such a person myself, I don’t see why I would want to pay for your discount??

Asking for a discount is just rude, but its the norm everywhere these days ,no one wants to pay the price of what something or someone’s worth.

Do you walk into your doctors and go ive been coming here since i was a kid , I should get a discount ?

Just because you have been using LB for years, how does that justify you a discount ,do you produce any additional revenue for them apart from paying for ur yearly sub like everyone else ?

$99US is bloody cheap. with conversion im paying $165 core and $332 for pro. for what ive got out of MM in the RCs id happily pay $150US for the basic and still find it is reasonably priced,

I’m yet to come across another software that has the same package close to that price and the ease of use

Are you a hobby cnc or small business?

Ive gone from complete novice 15mths ago into a confident user, Thanks to MM. if I was still solely a new hobbier cnc, core would be all i need . But the additional $100us for pro is a no brainer for me just to have the nest function

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts terry. AMAZING

Thanks to you too Paul. Also AMAZING.

Just a little licensing-related note about the MillMage Core product page:

The end of the first paragraph has the sentence “You can read more about the license here.” linked to the LightBurn licensing info page, which might confuse people. (The page references LightBurn’s additional year of updates $30 price, for example.) It should probably link to something like the License Management & FAQs - MillMage Documentation page instead, as that has correct information for MillMage.

Thanks for the heads up! I’ve raised this internally for a solution
