My Cherokee Beast

yeah i went through those settings getting my laser tuned in and optimized to the dlc controller. Only thing holding me back is no 0-10volt control on the board for a variable speed spindle but i might do one od the pmw adapter since i wont be running the a laser

John - I have both, the wiring manual and the users manual. I just went through both of them and found nothing about spindle speed control.

with the use of a pmw adapter to ttl i think it is called i have it written down somewhere here you do it by modulating the power to the laser if i remember correctly

go into machine settings and under “homing and limits” there are settings for router speeds.
I would think that the program that is running the router would have speed control ?

yes and it can be done in gcode but i want real time as i am working with some real hardwoods and black walnut and sometimes need to change spindle speed while there due to a hard spot and such

I learn something new everyday. I have a cnc router that I bought back in 2021 shortly after I joined L.B. It’s one of those SainSmart 3018. I think its working area is 9x12" maybe !! I set it up / hooked it up, with out a bit in it I ran the test program just to watch it move back/forth and up/down. I thought --well thats cool and then I covered it up with a couple of towels and never went back to it. It was to small for what I wanted to do. I even ordered a nice set of bits for the thing.

One of these days I’ll get back to it. I hope !!

great news ---- I figured out my problem with my Z not working. I checked my wiring with the ohm meter and my wiring was done correctly. I got to looking at the top of the stepper motor , (had to put on two pair of reading glasses) and I notice that my stepper is a 24 V and not 12 V. Anyway I ordered a stepper today, should be here in about a week. I am going to have to build a new mounting plate for the stepper to mount on, then I’m good to go !!! Finally !!!

Great news turned out not so great! My plan for putting a nema 17 on my z lift replacing the Nema 11 that’s on it. The z lift that I bought appears to be pressed together and I can’t swap out motors . So after several hours of searching I finally found a z lift linear actuator that is the same size as my first one and the new one has a Nema 17 motor and it’s 12v !!! Another 10 to 15 days before it gets here.
Hurry up and wait. Maybe one of these days I’ll get this rig running.

Randy

Well there has been a shipping problem with my new actuator. New arrival date is 10-9 thru 10-12. Oh well, better late than never. I didn’t want to leave people hanging up in the air on progress. So bare with me for a short time more.

New arrival date. I’m starting to get tired of waiting !!!

Randy

Well now UPS says I will get it on Sat. 12th.

At least this time they say it’s going to on time, the first due date.
Randy

I got my new actuator in last Sat. I didn’t get a chance to open the box until last night. I love it !!! It’s going to work just fine !!! 200mm travel with a nema 17 hi torque motor with 5.2 kg of vert. lifting power/force. It has its own controller built into the top of the motor. Just one little problem, at the present moment I don’t have any wiring schematics to this thing. Ok, whats so hard about wiring up 4 wires? Nothing to it !! Only what do you do when this thing has 10 wires coming out of it ? Does anyone out here have a set of schematics to this thing ? I could use some help with this thing. PLEASE !!!

Thank you everyone for all the help you folks have given me over the last three years.

had to put on two pair of reading glasses

Get a pair of these: Mighty Sight Magnifying Glasses | JML Took a long time for me to admit that reading glasses are not enough in certain situations anymore. Getting a set of “heavy duty” glasses and using them is a pain, these babies are easy as using regular ones when you need them.

Been following along. I haven’t seen AL+ or AL-, rest are typical microstep driver abbreviations/ connections. My guess AL is ALARM? for limit switch. EDIT: Closed Loop Driver. I know nothing about closed loop microstep drivers. :sunglasses:

I see the typical Pulse, Direction, Enable, Alarm, and Voltage outputs. The motor driver is attached to the back of the motor, rather than on your controller board itself - but one of our company 3018s has step/direction breakout pins, so you could be fine.

You’ll likely want to set SW4 to OFF

I have been looking at several different types of binocular glasses. You focus one lens then the other, (like the mad scientist). That way you can focus them to what ever distance you want as well as each eye. As little as I am setting at a key board my eyes are about 16 in. away, (with reading specs on). When I was making my 4-pin & 6-pin plugs for the steppers and the controller board, I’m wearing two pair of readers at about 8 in. distance.

Yesterday I went ahead and ordered another motor, Nema 17 hi-torque, 4-wire with a short shaft. Short shaft as in 15mm long. I liked to never have found one with that short of a shaft. I have a couple of 17s, but they have 20mm shafts. I was thinking about using one of those but I don’t think it be that easy to cut 5mm off. And they are not hi-torque. As for this 10 wire jobber, I never could get any ohm readings for the phases. So I think this one goes into the “what not” drawer.
I’ll have the replacement in a few days, it’s coming from the “Kentucky Hills” by way of USPS. Kentucky to Texas, about 7-10 days. I’ll give you another U.D. in a week plus a few days. Right now I’m laying the new holes to mount the new actuator block to the carriage front plate.
Thank you to all.

I have a “heavy duty” set with variable magnification lenses for prolonged use, but these are perfect for situations where you just need to see something quickly and without hassle (as in using reading glasses). I haven’t paid attention to the distance before, but now I measured it, they are sharp to about 10", further away they get fuzzy. Although you can wear them over regular glasses, I’ve never needed to do that.

Are yours the kind that you either twist the lens or turn a little knob for each lens?
The ones I was looking at, you turn a little knob. But I never saw any thing about distance. I watch u-tube a lot and ran across a vid about these glasses They said nothing about distance either.

They have switchable lenses: CARSON Unisex's CP-60 Pro Series MagniVisor Deluxe Headband LED Lighted Magnifier with 4 Different Lenses, Black, (1.5X, 2X, 2.5X, 3X): Amazon.co.uk: Toys & Games (CARSON Unisex’s CP-60 Pro Series MagniVisor Deluxe)

The lowest magnification has about 15" max distance and the highest mag lenses have about 5".

Yeah, it’s strange that no one mentions the maximum focus distance on any of these.

What I like about these is that the light is detachable and magnetic so you can attach it to anywhere instead of just the glasses and that you can actually get spare lenses if you need to.
