Been checking out the Lightburn videos on youtube and this forum. I have a Longer Ray5 10w on the way and have the trial Lightburn loaded up on the PC (about a week ago). I have looked but have not found the beginners beginner tutorial on Lightburn. I have pdf files of a clock I want to attempt, but having not used Lightburn before, it’s a learning curve.
The wife got me a Creality 3D Printer that I started into about 2 years ago to keep me busy after retirement and that’s been fun.
What I want to know is what do I do after I import the pdf into Lightburn, what next to be able to control the laser off of that PDF, how do I cut off what I don’t want in that same file, what layers do I need to put what on and so on. Most of the videos I have seen are past this point assuming that you know the software already.
Try these videos…
If you have specific issues, sing out…
Good luck
The information density is higher in the written doc:
Understanding the initial hardware setup steps will forestall many problems!
Then this will get you started:
A good series of YT Videos is from The Louisiana Hobby Guy. He covers some very basic basics, as well as more advanced stuff. He has literally scores of videos, and is very easy to understand as he goes through the steps of any particular lesson. You probably won’t find everything to be applicable, at least right away, and you’ll be jumping around in the video series to get the information you need to accomplish what you want to do. Here’s a link to his playlist:
Happy Lasing!
Thanks for the come back, I have seen the beginning Lightburn videos more than twice. I hate to mention this, but it was easier learning TinckerCAD.
I’m looking for a video that takes me from “after” the Laser setup, importing the first pdf, doing clean up of the pdf , figuring out which layers or what burns first then 2nd ect ect to actual laser burning.
I found this while noising around the Lightburn forums:
AI, SVG, DXF, PDF, HPGL, PLT, and RD for vector formats.
PNG, JPEG, BMP, TIFF, TGA, and GIF for image formats.
- Scan paper plan with drawing of object to be cut.
- Import pdf file of object to Lightburn.
- Use Trace command (using controls to optimize tracing.
- Edit traced image by using the ungroup command.
- Now delete any unwanted marks and use edit node control to carry out corrective tweaks.
- Export resultant image as a “lightburn” file
Perfect for the beginners like me.
ednisle Thank you I’ve seen the docs, youtube is more my speed, I’m a visual type.
DaveK-OR Thank you, already subscribed to Rich. You in stumpstown?
I’m happy you found the link useful.
Stumpstown? Do you mean in PA? I’m way over on the Left Coast.
I saw the OR after your name tag and was just guessing that it meant Oregun, I’m in Portland, OR
Portland… haven’t lived there in close to 50 years. These days I avoid it unless absolutely necessary.
I’m located about 90 minutes South and East of that benighted city.
