No Depth Of Pass in 3d Relief Finishing

The roughing pass with 6mm bit usually leaves more than I like to push the .5mm tapered ball nose in one pass for finishing

Yea, well that is where you need to add a little allowance the te roughing pass. Not add a 2nd finish pass.

Vectric call it an Allowance. Millmage calls it Depth to leave.

what dop are u doing ur roughing pass at , im running 3mm with a 0.5 ball on totara

I usually run a 6mm end mill

at 3mm only because I only superglue on blue tape for hold down. Worry about detaching if deeper cut

Nope - you can specify a percentage of material depth if you want, but the important bit is that the Roughing and Relief operations should both use the same start / finish depth values.

You do that by roughing, and specifying a ‘stock to leave’ value for the Roughing pass. That amount guarantees that the Finishing Pass will have at least that much to remove.
