Odd issues with coordinates

Good Evening,

Recently got the Millmage software and a new Foxalien Mauser pro 4040 and I love the look of the software, however I am facing some issues.

Millmage keeps telling me that my settings are 380x380mm and that I should change them, when the work area is 400x400mm

Secondly, whenever a limit switch is hit, it resets the X/Y coordinates to 0 but leaves the workpiece ones as is, meaning that if I hit a limit switch while jogging or framing my workpiece can end up -1000+ while my project area is only 400. It then also confuses the movement buttons and either jog button (L/R) will send the machine right and the Y jog buttons only send it 1 direction and when pressing home it doesnt reset the machine position xyz etc (im assuming start should be X,Y 0,0)

Very frustrating but looking forward to when the kinks are ironed out.

This all could be operator error so all advice welcome

Good day!

I have a Foxalien Masuter pro with extension to 4080 and had maybe related issues which may be caused by the same misunderstanding or whatever. I have only used it for laser cutting yet.
My topic was this in Lightburn forum: Foxalien GRBL wrong Coordinates
I works for me now for laser cutting but I tried Millmage now. The spindle is moving in the wrong direction when using the buttons in the move window. In my earlier topic someone said I should work with inverse coordinates in Lightburn but in Millmage it will be different (and easier to find the right setting?) I haven’t found a solution yet.
I hope I can learn with you.

I had similar once machine settings weren’t same as what i had put in work area id check your machine settings under cnc tools , sounds like machine is set with diff dimensions to what device settings are in MM which will cause crashing into limit switches if you ignore MM prompt to make the same once they were the same all issues disappeared,

I had it happen in lb also when i did an update some crazy reason it reverted to device defaults of 410 x 410 i had extension kit so bed was 410 x 850 caused assorts dramas

Not at machines so cant remember what $ codes are work area, have you looked at console when this happens , does it show an error

thinking outside box

when i put an extension on my algo laser , it wasn’t just a simple change y length , i had to contact algo support and get a special code for extension to work. they had not put the code in the install documents so would never of know unless i contacted them

maybe check all docs on extension for your device and contact manufactures worth a shot

Yes, my lightburn and lasers are totally separate so I havent tried FA with the diode.

But yes, the millmage issues are confusing, totally understandable being a new software but its frustrating with the limit switch resetting coordinates and seems to bug the whole machine.

I cant work out why it would be different its straight out the box with a fresh install, the coordinates error gives me the “your job is outside of your machine parameters” cant see how to reset the coordinates, they are showing as - numbers and the home is bottom left.

Look at the GCode and see if you have Zmotion commands at the start that might cause this. I get an error, but it runs fine. I am sure it is a settings issue, but have not found it yet. :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

open MM click cnc tools in tool bar , click machine settings, once that is open open bottom tab pretty sure it says advance , screen shoot all of that , upload it to here

also screen shot this part

For the Foxalien Masuter pro, in MillMage, make sure the machine zero is set to the back right corner:

Otherwise you will run into jogging issues, see: Using Jog only moves in positive direction

Millmage reads the 380mm axis travel setting from your machine, and tries to get you to match your Millmage settings with that so you will avoid boundary issues.

If you believe your machine settings are incorrect you would need to edit “Max travel” for X and Y in CNCTools>Machine Settings.

Hi Nicolas,

So doesnt matter the machine homes bottom left? Might be a laserism im bringing over, completely new to cnc

No that doesn’t matter, home corner and machine origin corner can be in different places and still work fine.

Cant see anything that says advanced. I am just about to swap 0,0 to back right.

This pop up keeps coming up, but as you can see it says 400x400

moved to back right and now the machine will stop at 380mm, but it has 400x400mm of travel, any ideas?

Physically moved the machine untill the limit switches and then moved it to home and got this

Pressed the Home XYZ - It did its home cycle, and now shows this

Somewhere its missreading my machine and making it lose about 20mm in X and Y.

Fresh install maybe?

click on “Update Device Settings” when prompted, or go to CNCTools>Device Settings and update the ‘Working Size’ to 400 x 400mm.

Oh I see yours is already set to 400mm, hmm let me think about this…

Go to the Console Window and enter $# what do you see?

Appologies for bombarding with questions! I’m going to do a fresh install of Millmage now and see if that helps.

I don’t think that is required, I think its just something simple, like the pull away distance from the home switch. Can you show your $$ settings please from the console?

These are all the settings/info pages

In the console window, enter $$ and then use your mouse to select and copy/paste the results here.

Thanks for the help so far, PSB
