I have had my Omtech Polar for a little under a year. Ever since my first engraving project, there are random times when the laser will jump to a different position and continue the engraving in a completely different area. This happens off and on, but lately it has been happening a lot more. I am engraving sections of larger images that I then tile together. There have been long stretches of time when this doesn’t happen at all, then there will be times when it happens on every project I try. It’s ruining a lot of material and beginning to get ridiculous. Is there anyone out there who has had this problem/know of a fix specifically for the OMtech Polar? Thank you so much for your time and help
There isn’t much here to go on. Ruida controllers are pretty tough and we don’t see them fail, often or at all like you’re describing.
Unless you’re using servos or closed loop steppers, there is no error feedback to the Ruida.
If/when it occurs again, check the motor drivers to see if they have detected some type of error. This is the red led (circled) next to the green one.
Does it make any strange noises when it does this? This could mean it’s not stepping properly because of something like a too high acceleration value.
You’re going to have to come up with more information on the failure for more help.
Which suggests a communication dropout of the sort that’s all too common over USB.
One way to convert the Polar’s Ruida controller to a more reliable Ethernet connection:
