I’m looking at one and never worked with that brand. I’m used to a Boss HP2040 150w.
My question is how well does it work with an X-Tool?
Lightburn is flawless with the Boss, in my experience.
Thoughts?
You do not say which kind of laser, diode, CO2, or fiber?
Why are you focused on the xTool brand?
Enter xTool in the forum search box and read everything you can find. Do the same for other brands as well.
Hi.
^This.
While I do understand that the clever marketing by the Makeblock does make their products very intriguing indeed, and even though I do still like my xTool D1 Pro, had I known even what little more I do know now when making the desicion to buy one, I’d most likely keep on looking at the alternatives.
So also:
^This.
If, and that’s a BIG IF, xTool would switch to “standard GRBL” so third party software like LB could be used without the need to do all sorts of “adjustments”, my view would probably change drastically.
While I do greatly appreciate the tremendous effort and time the LB staff has IMO needlessly spent to get us xTool owners even a fighting chance to use LB, I for one feel that their valuable and limited time could’ve been used for more productive things.
So once again, Thank You LB staff for keeping a minority like us xTool owners happy.

Sam
You probably saved @Cornerman a search. If you are already the owner of an xTool, the Thank You Lightburn is perfectly understood. If you are looking to purchase a new machine, there are less-hassle options out there. My research landed me on a particular brand, which has a fantastic wiki, and I never had brand envy for any other make.
I believe that the P2 is a 55w Co2
I have the opportunity to buy one with all the accessories. The chiller and exhaust are built in and most reviews seem positive.
I just downloaded their software and it looks pretty basic. Not sure if I can design in lightburn then import it into the X-Tool software.
If it’s this machine:
Then IMO it is extremely expensive for what it is, at least compared to approximately what I have:
Admittedly, the OMTech requires a whole lot more floor space, but … keeping over a kilobuck in your pocket may compensate for the larger platform, more powerful laser, standard Ruida controller, and reduced jank.
Translation: “It works with Lightburn”.
Just checked, they charge $600 more for the black over the white. To me that is a red flag indicating price gouging. Black and white enamel cost the same.
Is it that PLUS chiller? PLUS rotary? And some kind of exhaust?
AFAICT the P2 “chiller” uses a radiator, not a refrigerator, so it can’t keep up with the heat load on a warm day. I started with a bucket + ice packs, moved to a cheap icemaker, and now have a real refrigerator.
I have not yet added a rotary, but I really like these straightforward versions:
The exhaust fan is likely a straightforward blower which needs a hose to a nearby window / flue, which is about what my machine came with. I immediately upgraded that to an inline blower vented to an unused flue and now to a basement window.
So add five or six Benjamins to the OMTech and it’s still a kilobuck less than the xTool.
Also, I expect those fancy “smart cameras” in the P2 will work poorly / not at all with LightBurn, so maybe add a Jackson or two for a suitable USB camera.
What’s conspicuous in this thread is the complete lack of P2 owners piling on to say what a wonderful experience they’re having.
I’m a firm believer in one experience outweighing a zillion opinions, but the casual search suggested by @MikeyH earlier suggests the experiences and opinions are pretty well aligned.
I have a P2 - it’s certainly workable, but stifled in comparison to a machine that is more accessible from a firmware perspective. There is a lot that LightBurn is unable to do because xTool limits external access to their device, and only provides a GRBL compatibility layer when sending commands.
Were it my own dollars, I would buy an OMTech or a Thunder in that price range.
I found 2 different units for sale @ $4K with the rotary/conveyor feeder (which looks like it would be cool to use) and base riser. Well past $5500 new, that was the attraction
Appearances can be deceiving, no?

Well I am looking at the omtech 60w and a Boss EVO desktop. Trying to decide how much space i want to give up
Hi.
Thanks for the update, and good luck .
Please do keep us posted on Your experiences with Your new laser.

So far the P2 is as described
The camara function is awesome .
I do find myself referring back to Lightburn ion occasions. . Now how to get lightburn to communicate with the P2?
Hi.
No personal experience since the D1 PRO I have may well be the first and the last xTool product I ever buy, but:
is probably as good as any place to start.
At least You can download the .lbdev file needed to operate P2 from that article.
P2 does have it’s own forum tag here as well, but since folks generally are IMO somewhat clueless how to take advantage of using the tags, the general usefulness of the tags is unfortunately severely limited.
So, a site search may be the next best course of action.
And of course:
may give You some valuable pointers as well.

Sam
