Ortur Laser Master 3 No Wifi

I’ve seen several people with similar issues. It started out with intermittent Wi-Fi every few seconds. I’d unplug the laser, wait a few minutes and plug it back in. Then it would work. Now it’s not connecting to Wi-Fi at all. I can’t access it any way. I tried using the USB, but since setting it up for Wi-Fi, USB connects to the computer, but Lightburn doesn’t see it. Any help would be appreciated.

I tried looking in the manual and it showed the location of the reset button. I followed what it said and pressed the reset button briefly (I didn’t hold it down). The laser is totally dead at this point. I unplugged it and waited a while before plugging it in again. Still dead.

Hi Gregory

a) what version of the firmware?
Type $i in console and send us the full output please?

b) your wifi access point, does it allow 2.4/5G? or just 5G?

Pressing the reset button and the power button together got the power back. When I connect the USB, the laser appears in connected devices list and if I unplug it, it disappears from the devices list. Windows definitely sees it, but I have no way of connecting to it to get the configuration or firmware version.

Can you confirm your Power adapter has mains power?

Can you check your Usb port for any damage on the motherboard?

No damage to the motherboard or USB port. I uninstalled the LM3 from Lightburn and then from Windows. I reinstalled the LM3 in Windows but it is still not seen by Lightburn or Laser GRBL, although Windows properly identifies it. I’m thinking that the laser only want’s to communicate via Wi-fi and won’t connect via USB.

And to correct something I said earlier, Holding “Boot” and the power button gave me power back, not “reset” and the power button.

Also I tried reconnecting through my phone and am unable.

Serial port is always open, regardless of Wifi

How is identified on Device manager what com port?

I finally got Wi-Fi to connect via the browser. Here is what I got from the controller.

You might want to reassign manually your SSDI and Password

$74=yourssid
press enter
$75=yourpassword
Press enter
$WRS
press enter

this should provide you an ip
You can check with
$i
Press enter; “IP” section must be different from 192.168.5.1

$74 and $75 are correct. I am actually connected at the moment, but after deleting the laser and re-installing all my settings were gone. Now I’ve manually set it back up but the sizes of my designs are somehow different. I’ll tell it to frame the project and it frames it smaller than it should be. Now I’m working on this and hoping the Wi-fi continues to hold up.

You should be able to go to FIle > preferences > Load preference backup

That should restore the laser back

Adjusting $100 and $101 to get a good 1" square. Got it perfect. I also readjusted my project size, but after about an hour or so, I’m back to no Wi-fi and I’m about to scream.

If you need to adjust $100-$103 range, this means that probably you have a belt tension issue

Branded Grbl devices rarelly need a “stepper tune”.

Can you take a couple images of your Y belt tensioners?

I’m out of commission again with no Wi-fi! I have to find a way to use the USB!

That was my 2nd question, while Wifi (specially if you enable Gcode Cluster) is a ok feature, seems your wifi accessibility is a bit spotty

Is your Laser not detected with USB?

The computer identifies it by USB immediately when connect it, but Laser GRBL and Lightburn don’t see it. The ports are ok, as I hook up external hard drives, and CD Rom drives without an issue. The computer even identifies it as Ortur Laser Master 3, so I don’t understand the problem.

You might need Zadig…

Do this please
Right click start menu > Device manager

Expand PORTS - power laser and plug USB
What do you see pop up?

Under USB Devices it says “Ortur Laser Master 3 Serial”. I scrolled through the different property settings and it shows it is present and connected with no errors. Under events it says “Device not migrated”.
