Ortur LM 2 can move laser, but will not execute any burns

I can connect to the Ortur, can move the ‘head’ (for lack of a better word) at will by using the ‘set laser position’ icon, but when I hit start the only thing that happens is the laser fan turns on but the ‘head’ does not move. Using the ‘Frame’ button, the console just says ‘ok’ but no movement of the head at all. Does respond to ‘Home’ doing the right thing.

Any hints?

ok

Additionally, I know, this sounds ridiculous, but double check all cable connections. The fact that the fan turns on but the laser doesn’t fire could mean a loose cable to to the laser module…or even a spliced cable along the path (so checking for continuity could also help).

I usually just CAREFULLY disconnect and then return next each cable harness starting at the motherboard as a first diagnostic. It has fixed two issues I experienced with excessive vibrations so it is now my go-to.

Are you able to see the laser beam using the “fire” button? (Check YouTube for how to activate this option if you don’t k ow about it). I’d working, this would address any cable issues to the laser module.

There is always the chance that the laser module is DOA, but that is more of a question for Ortur Tech (can try the Facebook group) if it isn’t resolved here.

Best of luck!

P.S. this is also going to sound REALLY basic, but is your output turned “on” (green) in the Lightburn cut list? I suspect “yes”, but, if not, home would work great and the software would think you framed everything you wanted (since nothing would be “on” to frame in the first place) thereby giving you the successful status report even though it seemingly did nothing.

When you connect to the machine do you get a propper welcome message like this?

I would $RST=* in console to restore defaults
Then keep a close eye on the console for error messages, i suspect something like SHock detected or Alarm 3 are triggering instantly on your start

Can you double check?
Regards

Right you are on the alarm, it scrolled off the screen so I didn’t see it earlier (pays to scroll back apparently…). Did the $RST=* and got the same result when trying the job again.

FYI, here is the lbrnjunk.lbrn2 (187.7 KB) dump, not sure how to fix this motion alarm error

Which alarm was it though. kinda important. if youc an grab a screenshot of the error as it happens?
I cant see anything wrong as such with your settings on the lbrn file
I would just disable air assists, but even that shouldnt be a problem.

I should have grabbed that earlier…my bad:

…and firmware version…

Lightburn software downloaded just last week.

OK, this is an odd clue - I created a new lbrn file and placed a tiny 10 x 20mm box in the lower left corner positioned at x:10, y:10 - and everything works on that lbrn - but, it makes the box about 10 x 115mm and the y offset is way off - nowhere near y:10 (it also appeared to be at about 115mm above where it should be.

Seems something is messing with my y coordinate setting at runtime. Doing a ‘Frame’ command cycles around where it should be and at the correct size, only ‘Start’ messes it up.

Ah ha - got it! I had been doing a roller-job previously and forgot to turn off the roller - it was calibrating the y-axis movements for the roller not the flat design I was doing.
