Ortur LM2 Pro X axis rocking

Hi! I posed a few weeks back on having random issues with print and cut alignment. Never quite solved it, but may have found a related issue. New topic because it seems related, but is separate from print and cut.

When I use the jog function on the X axis moving left to right, small distance values (<2-5mm) cause the laser to “rock” - it will move the desired amount to the right and then will immediately move back left to where it started. This rocking does not occur in the following scenarios 1) moving on the Y axis in any direction or distance 2) moving right to left on the X axis and 3) moving larger distance values (>5mm). I’m particularly confused by #3 there, because I’d expect it to rock back slightly, but the laser never moves back leftwards at all for any distances greater than 5mm. I’ve also setup test cuts and have not specifically seen this behavior while a normal burn is going on, but I’d assume some level of issue is occurring.

I’ve linked a video below - the first few times are moving left to right on a 2mm increment. The last is moving left to right on a 20mm increment.

I’m not an expert at all on laser setup and belt tightness, but I’ve taken the X belt off, cleaned it, and put it back on as best I can and the behavior didn’t change. Curious to hear other people’s thoughts or recommended troubleshooting. Ideally it’s something obvious that I’m overlooking or there’s some troubleshooting I can do to help pinpoint an issue. Worst case, the stepper motor just might be toast?

Thanks for any input or advice.

Check 2 things:

  1. recheck belt tension. This could be overtensioned. Belt should be taught without slack but should not be stretching.
  2. Check alignment of the guide wheels for the laser module assembly. Are in any way out of alignment or binding in anyway? You can adjust wheel height by the eccentric bolts near the wheels. Make sure there’s minimum gap without any binding/gripping.

Have you changed any configuration parameters for the controller? Or are they stock?
