I’ve been using the Ortur LM2 with the rotary attachment for several months. Suddenly the rotary isn’t rotating properly. No rotary setting have been changed. If I set the laser on my product at the center line, and use the Lightburn move tool to rotate it up and down and back to center, it will miss center by .5 - 1.5 centimeters. It’s not even consistent in how much it is off. Once I start burning, it seems to track correctly. I have checked all of my settings (none of changed), replaced the cable, cleaned and tightened the rotary, updated the firmware on the laser (1.42). I am currently running v1.0.06 Lightburn. I’ve opened a ticket with Orturn, but not convinced it’s a hardware issue. Video attached. Any suggestions?
If your information is correct, you should check the mechanical. If everything was operational and no hard/software changes, it has to be hardware… Software doesn’t break, it has bugs…hardware breaks.
Gil @OrturTech knows these machines the best, lets hope he gets the message. You put it in the right place.
I must say, I’ve never seen a one gal + pint frame. But it is a rather large coffee mug…
Good luck
Ha - it’s my wine mug!
Update - because I’m that type of person, I ordered a new rotary from Amazon (got it next day). I set it up last night with the LM2 and calibrated the rollers. Worked great in my tests. I could move the rotary forward and back and then to center without any issues. However, when I started burning I can tell where the laser is moving, but the rotary pauses. See link to pictures.
Now to really complicate things. I decided to set up the rotary on my new LM Pro 2. It move the rotary on power up, but then doesn’t do anything after that - rotary test, manually moving it with the move button.
I do think these are all Ortur issues now, but appreciate any feedback I can get. I’ve had a ticket open for three days with Ortur.
I was hoping Gil @OrturTech would weigh in for this.
I’ve seen this before… but can’t place it.
Hang in there…
Thanks Jack!
Do you think power could have anything to do with this?
That is always a concern, but I think the machine would have other problems, like resetting itself.
What kind of supply do you have?
I really don’t know much about power, but the laser is connected to a power strip and plugged into a normal home 20 am 110volt circuit. This hasn’t changed, so it’s shouldn’t be power, but just thinking about what it takes to move the mechanics of the rotary.
I may have this figured out (at least with the new rotary and LM2). Because this is such a large bowl that sometimes can walk on the rollers, I have a “contraption” set up on the back to act as a stop. I recently raised my laser with a new stand so this “stop” was lower than usual. I think when the bowl walked a bit, it hit the “stop” low on the product causing the bowl to tip slightly (same result as if the laser moved). I have raised the stop and it seems to have solved the problem. Just need to come up with a better way of keeping these large dog bowls from walking.
I’m still having issues with the LM2Pro, but honestly believe it is an issue with either the controller or power supply. Noticing that the power supply light flashes when I have the issue. After several attempts of using the RST=* command in Lightburn and resetting the laser and unplugging the USB, I finally got it working. However, once the laser power cycles, it causes the machine settings in Lightburn to revert back to the default settings and causing the laser to “lock up” forcing me to go through the reset steps again. I’ll just continue to follow up with Ortur on this one unless someone has seen this happen before.
I still haven’t figured out the issue with the original rotary. It’s only a few months old, but has to have some type of mechanical or controller issue as well.
This isn’t right. May be a good indicator to think about a replacement.
I was asking about the power supply itself, not the house wiring.
Is it 12v at so many amps?
The LM2Pro is 24v 2 amps.
I just received some weird response from Ortur basically saying it’s working as designed because you want the homing settings turned off for use with the rotary. Of course you do, but you shouldn’t have to reset the hardware and disconnect the USB cables to use it. I’ve kicked it back to them.
