I am using Rowmark LaserMax materials (Brushed Pewter). It’s a laser-safe plastic from Johnsons Plastics. I am getting phantom dots on the material when I engrave. If I use RDWorks or my other laser (Glowforge), I don’t get these dots. The dots do not appear in the same places and scatter randomly. It seems to be around details, as larger straight lines aren’t affected. I started at 7.5 speed 25 power, increased to 8 speed and 17.5 power. Latest test was 10 speed and 20 power. All with the same result
I’ve seen on other posts that this may be attributed to “laser scatter” due to the reflective nature of the material. I’ve removed the clear plastic masking and replaced it with paper masking and the “dots” have disappeared.
I’m still curious why these would appear only when using Lightburn, though.
