PLC triggered laser for QR marking

Can I use LightBurn in non hobby setting?
I’d like to trigger the laser with a PLC.
I’d like the QR / DataMatrix to index for serialization.

Any thoughts on this project?

What is a plc? …

Programmable Logic Controller

A piece of hardware to do what?

Maybe if you followed through with the process, we could help.

I don’t know how you’d communicate anything back to Lightburn …

You can easily make serial QR codes using variables and CSV files. Here is a link to the previous topic.

@barsa1211 thanks for those links.

@jkwilborn Basically we manufacture metal parts on CNC machines and I’d like to laser mark QR or Data Matrix codes onto the parts after machining. I just can’t trust the operators to 100% of the time “remember” what serial number was on the previous part. My goal is that the marking software has one task and that is to mark the 2d code and then index up by 1.

I’m working on a project that uses an HMI / PLC at each machine to capture inspection data. At the stations where laser marking will be implemented, I’d like a page on the HMI to trigger the marking. Also the PLC will handle the safety gates and such before marking.

Sounds like the software you use is proprietary to your laser… You can set up the fiber so it’s started by a foot switch… no reason you can’t pull it down to start it…

There is nothing that I know of with Lightburn that will automate what you want done…

Maybe @Rick could come up with a suggestion… :pray:

@jkwilborn Sorry I didn’t clarify from the beginning. I don’t have any hardware in place yet. I only have my HMI / PLC test bench that I use for testing and debugging. I am still in the exploratory phase of project viability before I purchase any hardware for the laser marking aspect. I am open to any and all ideas. Thanks for your help.

Check this topic , maybe you can use the idea to trigger the marking.
