Putting text in a filled in shape

Hi all
I dont know if im missing something really obvious here but ive forgotten how to do this. I have a oval shape that i want to fill in except for the text i have inside of the oval. no matter how i go about this the preview shows the oval is completely filled in and that there is no text.

Make the text the same colour/layer as the oval, that should do it

The fill of a shape is determined by the boundaries of that shape and acts as an ON / Off toggle as shown in the following post. With this reminder, building shapes and text to produce as you’d like will become second nature.

How do I invert (negate) a vector engraving?

If you want to invert a vector engraving (Fill layer) you need to add an outline to it. Think about what happens when you scan a circle, compared to the letter ‘O’. The inner ring of the O toggles the fill.
