RE: Camera - CO2 / Ruida - It’ll work, then all of a sudden, not work

Follow up from this archived thread:

  1. as mentioned already…
    a. It’s an actual Lightburn Camera, purchased here, not an Omtech. I bought a LB camera to avoid any incompatibilities :-/
    b. When this happens, the camera will still work with other camera apps.
    c. …regardless of the laser being on or off. same result

  2. the Ligthtburn camera’s as-supplied usb cable (only) comes out of the laser’s pass through slot right into the computer. no extensions

  3. laser is controlled via ethernet… the usb connection failed horribly all the time.

  4. this just happened again last weekend, didn’t remember to turn logging on

What actually happens when the camera stops working? Does the picture in the camera control window completely disappear?, does it go black?, can you still use ‘Update Overlay’ button or is it greyed out?

When this happens can you still use any of the other menus or controls in LightBurn or does the whole program freeze?

In the Camera Control window, if you switch to ‘None’, and then open the camera drop list can you still see the LightBurn camera in the list? If you select it again does the image come back?

Check where the cable connects to the camera board, and make sure it’s not loose.

It might help to disable power management for your USB ports:

If you haven’t already, please also follow the instructions in our camera troubleshooting documentation:

Can’t Connect to Camera, or No Camera Image
If LightBurn can’t see your camera, or its capture is only a black screen

If the problem keeps happening, we can refund or replace the LightBurn camera - which model do you have?

The camera control window never goes away, there is an option of “none” or “lighburn camera”.

Every time the background camera button doesn’t do anything, that’s my clue that something has happened with the camera.

I’ve had the camera control tab show the camera, but the background fails to show, but most of the time there is nothing in the camera tab preview and there is nothing for the background.

Sometimes, I can select “none” on the camera tab, then select “lightburn camera” and it’ll comeback…

when that fails, I can re-launch LB, typically with no change, even rebooting my computer doesn’t fix it… it’ll eventually come back sometime later… but who knows when.

when the camera is working in LB, it works good… till it doesn’t.

at those moments, when LB isn’t working with the camera, the camera will still work with external app

It could still be a problem with the camera or cable, even though it seems to be working in other apps over short periods of time the camera/connection might not be stable enough for LightBurn to use consistently.

Check the camera end of the cable and ensure the wiring and connector is secure and that USB plug is properly connected at your PC end, try a different port at your PC.

If not quite enough power is getting though to the camera that can cause the kind of problems you are seeing, do you have any other things unnecessarily plugged into your computer’s USB ports like phone charging cables that are used? It may help to install a self-powered USB hub (with an external power supply), and connect the camera to that.

Check the camera cable’s path as it exits out of the pass-through of the machine and make sure it is not running close by any other electrical equipment like an extractor fan or power wiring.

Agree with using a powered hub,but would recommend the camera be plugged into a powered USB port on the computer and everything else be plugged into the hub. Windows seem to treat cameras it finds slightly different to other usb devices probably due to volume of data flow.

well, I consider myself lucky… the camera is still working… which is the norm… until it decides to not work…

there are only 2 usb items plugged into my computer and neither are hardly ever used at the same time (LB camera and an external com port)

I’ll order a powered hub and give that angle a go.
