Replacing the DSP controller to be compatible with Lightburn. What are my best options?

Hello, I just became the proud owner of a co2 laser machine and I would like to replace the DSP controller with one that is lightburn compatible. The machine came with Microstep drivers for 3 phase steppers and has a rotary axis switch that disables the y-axis when in use. The exact machine is a UNICH LXJ1325. I did see a thread a few years ago asking the same question between Trocen and Rudia controllers.

I would ideally like something that:

  • I can use the rotary as a separate axis and not need to toggle from the y-axis
  • Has an intuitive interface
  • $500 budget
  • Easy to use with Lightburn

What would my best options be?

Ruida controllers continue to be the best supported controller for LightBurn. If this is a priority then there’s little choice, go with something from Ruida.

It meets all your stated needs with the possible exception of “intuitive interface”. That could be debated but it’s certainly learnable.

Within the line of Ruida controllers there’s quite a variation. I can’t speak to all of them but the 6442G is well supported but is an older model. It does not have a focus button and requires an extra step to control Z-axis rather than having dedicated buttons. 6445G also seems well supported.

They is a side-brand from Ruida called Ryxon which is a legitimate Ruida controller and works in LightBurn. The KT332N model is common in some Omtech models.

I’d agree with @berainlb and go with a Ruida… The 6445 has a higher resolution screen, but either should work… The console of each is a different size, if that matters…

Good luck… we want some pictures of the conversion…

Awesome info! I picked it up “broken” on facebook the guy was moving and could never get the Chinese software working. Instead trying to learn that software I know Lightburn (somewhat) so I want to convert it.

Where is the best place to buy the Ruida 6445?

I’d suggest the 6445 since you want to use a rotary…

Most people suggest cloud ray laser as a dependable source.

They are Chinese, these lack the ‘intuitive’ option :face_vomiting:

Good luck… take some pics and post’em as you do it…
