Laser has been working fine, but i noticied yeterday the bed wouldnt move up or down sometimes, now it wont move at all. X and y move just fine but i cant adjust the bed. Its making a noise like its trying to move. I noticed home is x0, y0, u10000. Im thinking its a control panel problem since its saying my home is 10000. Help?
That means the U axis was not homed.
That would definitely prevent it from homing. Does it home when you turn the machine on or as part of the autofocus dance?
Most likely, something got jammed in the belt or the vertical leadscrew pulleys:
If it’s not visible, turn the power off and drag the belt by hand. If it will move in one direction and not the other, that tells you which side of the pulleys to examine.
If it moves in one direction, you can set the manual jog to 2 mm so the belt moves by one tooth per step, then examine all the pulleys as you step the motor.
And if a diligent search doesn’t reveal the problem, then things get nasty … ![]()
Currently with a bad back so ive pulled to the best of my abilites. Shouldnt be a fight or flight to pull the belt correct? Ill pop the belt covers off to give me more grip
It goes through the motions to go home on the xy but nothing on the u (z) axis
I got the belt to move freely which has me thinking its the stepper motor now
Before all this, did it home automagically when you turned it on?
That is not typical, because the platform can mash something against the laser head while homing, so if it did not home there may be nothing wrong.
Does the machine have an autofocus pen / switch?
Does the U axis now move with the console jog buttons as it should?
It does have an autofocus/pen style and after the belt moved freely it still did not let me adjust the z (u) axis
Ive noticed the stepper motor moving but not the belt which has me to believe its a lose set screw within the stepper motor
Bingo!
The pulley on the motor in my machine appears to be press-fit on the shaft, but there’s no telling what they did in yours: expect the unexpected!
I noticed on the board that LatU- is staying flashed while LatU+ is blinking
Here to close out the thread, set screw in the stepper motor was the issue! Bed is now leveled out better than when it was shipped! Now time to troubleshoot autofocus and prep for a manual focus test!
I have had the same issue for a couple of years. My lasers home position is at the upper left which should be 0,0 but when it powers up it shows as 10,000,10,000 I have to reset it every time to 0,0 to get it as it should be. Everything works fine once I reset the origin point. I’ve tried everything I can think of to permanently reset the origin to 0,0.
Does it go through a homing cycle when it’s turned on? If it’s not moving to that corner, tapping the switches twice, and then halting, it’s not homing correctly.
If it does not home correctly, then those values are normal and, AFAICT, there is no way to manually reset them to anything else.
I’ve started trying to return it to 0,0 before I shut it down. But when I turn it back on it homes but shows 10,000,10,000
Are the LightBurn coordinates shown when you hit Get Position equal to the values shown on the machine display?
If they differ, is the machine display at 0,0 after it homes?
Which Ruida controller is it?
It may have a similar gotcha as recent KT332N(Z) controllers with a known firmware difference in the Z axis coordinates:
It originally always homed at 0,0 I’m not sure if I got it off at some point trying to reset the home corner or if something else happened but it started showing 10,000,10,000 a couple of years ago. I feel like if it got changed to 10,000, 10,000 it should be able to be changed back to 0,0.
With a Ruida controller, the home corner must be the one with the home switches, which is where the machine homes when it starts up.
Does the machine home correctly when it’s turned on?
Does the controller display show XY = 0,0 after it has homed?
If so, then set the LightBurn Device Origin to that corner:
I’ve got in the habit of moving it to the home position, upper left, before I shut it down but I don’t believe it will home when it starts. But, when it starts there it does move a little and finds the home position but it’s 10,000, 10,000 and I have to reset it to 0, 0
Upload a screenshot of the X & Y Axis settings so we can see what’s set to do (or not to do).
Please answer these questions, because we cannot see what you see:
- Are the LightBurn coordinates shown when you hit
Get Positionequal to the values shown on the machine display? - If they differ, is the machine display at 0,0 after it homes?
- Which Ruida controller is it?
