Snapmaker Artisan 1064nm (2w) Laser offset not working

Hey all,

I am trying to use the 2w (1064nm) laser on the snapmaker, but after cutting a jig with my 40w, switching the module to the 2w, and placing the object in the holder, it is slightly off. I cannot take any pictures because the 2w laser cannot mark my jig, but my issue seems very similar to this post Lightburn: Cut and Fill Layers aren’t aligned as they are in softare - Software / Third Party Software - Snapmaker: where creation happens.

Here is my scenario:

  1. Jig is bolted into workspace
  2. Cut a hole in basswood with 40w laser
  3. Switched module to 2w laser
    1. used both change module AND manual power off/switch
  4. Placed metal coin in jig hole
  5. Frame is off by what feels like is exactly the laser offset established in the 2w laser lightburn settings (x21.5, y -11). It is slightly “down and to the right”
  6. Item does not correct/shift position at all when I switch off the offset function or initiate burn

What ive done:

  • Reattached 40w, frames and cuts exactly where intended to ensure I did not move jig or mis calculate frame
  • Shut off enable offset, rebooted lightburn - no change
  • Changed offset to wildly different numbers, no change
  • verified “40w” laser offset is not carrying over when I switch device profiles

Any thoughts are appreciate!

Sorry I dont know how to edit my post:

I am unsure if it is that the offset is wrong or I dont know how to adjust the laser properly…

Hi Jason

Snapmaker Ray user here. I had this issue a while back but moved on from the problem without solving it.

I just did a quick ai search and it suggested the X-Y calibration must be adjusted after turning off snapmaker - Turn On - select device and Module - adjust X-Y coordinate manually.

This can also be done by changing G-code…not my speciality! But looks simple enough.

I think it means…to get the 40w dot and the 2w dot both starting from same place.

I’m short on time here so can’t get into it right now, but can do later…sorry I haven’t done this before now.

If you figure it out remember to save the new coordinates to that device so you don’t have to recalibrate every time.

So interestingly, I created a cross hair on sacrificial piece, and the math to see if I needed to make my own offset…it came out as x21.5,y-11! So what I did, was I reversed it and got closer. looks like it was closer on the y axis, but it was off center for the coins X axis. Very odd since all I did was reverse the positive and negative of the offset (-21.5x,11y). So this is VERY odd. I want to say snapmaker needs to identify the real offset here. I need to get this post over to snapmaker.

Not much time for researching so far but there seems to be no reference documentation regarding physical X=0/Y=0. So, my imagination kicked in and suggested to find a ‘Start From’ point located at physical dead centre on the cutting deck and Test/calculate outward from there to the outermost distance where both dots corelate and that’s the outer boundary for the jig.

The 2wIR is 0.03x0.03 and my 20w is 0.1x0.8 so calculate the dead centre of the 2wIR dot within the dead centre of the 20w dot and manually test - Adjust and save coordinate.

Not sure if that’s the easiest way of doing it but maybe it’s on the right path.
