Has anyone used the software Program (Boxes.PY)? I would like to know if you can use plywood 1/4-inch converted metric and still use this Program? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You
Sure!
Set the thickness
value to whatever you measured.
If you also set Format
to lbrn2
, the file will open directly in LightBurn. You can then tweak the layer settings as needed, save those layer settings as LightBurn defaults, and subsequent projects will automagically have the right settings.
Also, because you’re using a laser, set inner_corners
to corner
. The other options work better for CNC routers / mills.
The burn
parameter at the bottom controls the fit and will depend on your laser & material. I find 0.04 works well for plywood & MDF on my CO₂ laser, but experimentation is the only way to know.
Each box has a gazillion different parameters, most of which don’t require any attention. It’s worth browsing through the assortment to get familiar with the choices, because every now and again one will come in handy.

First, Let me say thank you, Mr. Nisley. This information is so welcome.
I have tried on several occasions to cut the tabs and slots. I have measured my material each time with a micrometer. It measures from 1/4-inch to 6.2 mm or 6.258. Changing of the corners may help.
I appreciate your quick answer and for correcting the net address. I will try these suggestions, and I would like to let you know my results.
Sincerely,
Frank Barker
Not sure of the complexity of the project you are using boxes.py for… but here is an alternative browser based tool that I’ve used many times. I prefer it because it gives you a real-time view of your box as you modify the parameters.
Just my $.02.
Jim
