Version number confusion for Image Masking - videos show 0.9.16

Image Mask in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1q4WyVMfhXg looks great; so I tried to see if I had the right version, but three things got on the way:

  • The video shows 0.9.16 (according to the title bar in the video)
  • Linux Lightburn doesn’t have an obvious way to tell me the version number - it’s not in the title bar, and there’s no ‘about’ box. The ‘generate support data’ probably has it, but it’s encoded in some way so I can’t read that
  • https://lightburnsoftware.com/pages/trial-version-try-before-you-buy only offers 0.9.16

So overall I was quite confused, until I found https://lightburnsoftware.com/blogs/news/lightburn-0-9-17-tool-layers-single-line-fonts-image-masking-and-much-more so realised that the unreleased 0.9.17 is required. Some people on the forum (Few issues with new features in 9.17) seem to have an early copy, but I’ve not spotted how yet…

The video shows 0.9.16 because it was recorded a week or so ago while the version number we work with internally was still 0.9.16.

Unfortunately not here, it says A network error occurred: Error creating SSL context () (I tried it as part of my investigation). Here is Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS (fossa-bulbasaur X38.1), and it is because: qt.network.ssl: Incompatible version of OpenSSL.

That was my guess; but I mention it somewhat so you know in case others get confused also. I looked in the YouTube video description for a hint on what version is being described, but it’s not there, so the only mention is the 0.9.16 which is a red herring. Maybe it’s spoken and I missed it!

The main trial / download page has been updated to the 0.9.17 release (I missed that yesterday).
