I have spent hours reading recommendations and watching videos and I still cannot get lightburn to work with my laser. The status says it is ready but never actually connects. I am new to using MAC computers but was advised to buy this to work best with my laser. I need assistance.
I am having the same problem, I am a complete newbie to lasers and light burn…
What Mac exactly?
USBa to USBC adapter?
connect USB - power on machine and do a terminal scan with this
ioreg -p IOUSB
post output please
I had a similar problem with connecting my iMac to a 10 watt Creality laser. LightBurn couldn’t find the laser. I was connecting directly between the usb port on the computer and the laser. What solved the problem is a little strange, when I moved the usb connector from the computer to a powered usb expander the problem was fixed! I don’t know why it worked ( although I think it has something to do with the 5v line) but LightBurn runs the printer directly now.
Good luck
Jay
I have no idea how to do that. As i said in my post. I’m new to Mac and lasers so I’m trying to learn but i need instructions.
It’s a MacBook air with Monterey of that helps.
Post output please
could you be more specific about the part you bought? I am having the same issue, did you buy it on Amazon? Thanks for any help you can provide
what does “open a terminal.” mean? How do you do that? I too am technically challenged and new to lasers and lightBurn… Thanks (sorry for hijacking the thread)
right so hold comannd Spacebar, then type TERMINAL
terminal is like a command line black box you type text in
In that box type, after connecting machine
ioreg -p IOUSB
press enter
A big text output will come out, either copy it here or take a picture please
The hub I used is the “USB Hub 3.0 splitter by LYFNLOVE , yes I did buy it from Amazon. However, in checking out my connection I discovered a critical element I left out. Inline with the extension usb cable I also added a “PortaPow” cased power blocker ( also from Amazon) which blocks the 5 volt line on the cable while leaving the ground connected. Sorry I forgot that.
pushing “command and space bar” activates siri on my lap top?..
it should bring Spotlight
On there you type temrinal
but you can go to APPs find terminal there too
Definitely your machine is not being detected even on hardware level
So you have either a USB cable issue, or you need a dumbing down usb dongle that drops all connections to USB 2.0
Do you have any usb hub or simialr you can use in between?

Is this right? Thank you for all of your help!!!
try really going “dumb”
I am unsure if your mac is USBc
But if it is

or even

I had with similar articles.
The goal is to force mac to handshake at 2.0 level and not try 3.0
When I go to “Finder” and look at “Locations” it shows the USB connected and labeled as “LightBurn”… I do not understand why it is not working…
still would be ideal to run the command i sent in terminal to see exactly what your mac is seeing in terms of serial ports
I would be glad to, I am too illiterate to know how to do it
