Xtool longer or other

I’m looking at getting a new laser. This time I’m getting a table top one. I had a creality 5w module one and took a dump in 2 weeks. I have a budget of 400 or so and with sales going some fit in that range like the longer ray5. I can get a refurbished xtool d10 non pro refurbished for 250. Help

What part is broken on your current laser?

If it’s the module, you could replace it, same goes with the control board…

That’s a much lower cost option … if you’re interested.

It’s a wire issue. It’s being sent back for a refund. I’m looking now at either sculpfun s30 10w or an ortur master 2

Understand completely…

There are many that use both of these… I’ll let them advise you…

Good luck

I have the S30 Pro (not extended) and like it a lot. It is very well built and assembled without a hitch. I think the new design Xaxis gives it great positioning accuracy, even after adding a manual Zaxis adjuster (King Gubby). The air assist pump is so quiet I have to touch it to confirm it is running. Although xTool said the RA2 Rotary was not compatible, I added it without any grief.

To summarize, I am very happy with my machine. Here is my setup going back a few months;

You will also find @misken to be a superb source of information on the Sculpfun machines (he has his own website).

There, you have it. The opinion of one user.

About three years ago I bought an Ortur Laser Master 2 Pro, and started making custom engraved charcuterie boards, tumblers, coasters and wooden pen & pencil sets. The OLM2 Pro definitely earned its keep as it allowed me to purchase a 60W CO2 laser, to speed up the process of making the cutting boards. The Ortur is exclusively my rotary machine now and is still very busy. It was easy to put together and is well supported by 3rd party makers of attachments and accessories (i.e. Z adj. and air assist nozzles). Ortur gets two thumbs up from me. :+1: :+1:

I think im going a completely different brand and going with atomstack. An atomstack a10 pro

Might go with an atomstack over the ortur. I like ortur and what they have but ive heard good things of atomstack as well. Its slightly bigger than the ortur, however it doesnt have the leg riser extensions like ortur. But idk i like orturs site, looks more customer friendly. What i want to do is: engrave charcuterie boards, tumblers and different things. BUT i also want to cut material as well. Nothing to outrageously thick obviously but i want to have the power to do that as well

It is the bad things you need to hear about.

Just a word of warning…

Some manufacturers lock you out from changing GRBL parameters.
Some manufacturers require you configure the machine with a definitions file.

Neither is good if you want to change the performance or mechanical characteristics of the machine. Even worse if you are trying to diagnose a problem.

which would you recommend then

also ive looked at the bad as well. Ive read forums, reddits, watched reviews etc. Reason i chose those two were modularity, expansion, reviews, and price

My recommendation is the one I own, but that is not necessarily best for your situation. What I do recommend is that you search the forum for specific models to see what you can find. You might search using XCS for example. What you read could be a plus or minus depending on your situation and plans.

There is a lot of variety, even within manufacturer’s product lines. Do not let price be your primary decision maker. Lower cost machines are that because they may ignore quality or features.

I will say this, The Sculpfun S series is expandable in size and power, solidly built, and admittedly not run with the low-cost dogs. Their sales claims about performance were not inflated or misleading (this was very important to me). And I have read few forum complaints about mechanical issues not self induced.

I am not saying others are bad machines, but they might fall short working as a system that incudes MSoft, MacOS, Linux, and Lightburn. My choice leaned towards a hassle-free machine (my age might have been a contributing factor to this attitude).

Did not make it any easier did I?

No, I totally get what you’re saying the price isn’t the number one factor but power expandability modularity are some of the biggest ones I run lightburn on Mac and have used a creality five watt module that went on my 3-D printer, which was the one that took a dump And I haven’t gotten too much into the program aspect of it yet because I’m just starting out but you do bring up valid points and I thank you for that. By the way, were you navy or military at one point? I read your bio description and made me think that you were military at one point .

Indeed! I had no idea that info was lurking in the Bio.

Yes, USAF, 4 years, Vietnam Era.
Thanks for asking!

What tipped me off the radar mechanic. My dad is 20 years United States Navy Sub force retired. Thank you for your service.

Those guys should get extra benefits!
Yeah, I can see where you got it. And thank your Dad for His service.

Went with the Ortur LM2 Pro S2. The sculpfun was looked at but I just couldn’t get enough funds to go for it. I also like how you can change settings on the ortur if I want to experiment and another big factor was customer service

Great! Ortur makes good stuff and I am sure you will be happy with it. And yeah, money is relevant, no matter what anybody says.

We expect to see some postings when you start cranking out stuff.
