Y Axis will not move. 80 w CO2 laser red/Black Ruida controler

Oh, you changed the sensor and now it all works? That’s great.

Try pushing “Reset” on the control panel. What happens?

i had pre oredered a sensor just in case, the diagnostic shows both controlllers working but the machine wil still not move up or down, looking for your comments on what to do. Sam

is there a way to reset everything so it returns to top RH corner

thank you for your paitence with me I am an old man of 78 years and still learning.

Certainly the right attitude.

If you power cycle the laser, do you still only get motion going right and none moving up?

yes the laser will only move up or down by manually forcing it to move

i have tried the keys on the Ruida panel to move it up or down but no luck

Okay.

Let’s test the motors to see if the problem is in the Y stepper motor, the Y stepper driver, or the controller.

Let’s refer back to this diagram.

With the machine off, swap the entire green blocks that are marked by 1A and 1B. The whole green block is removable from the driver.

Turn the machine on.

What happens?

are you refering to the x axis driver and the y axis driver

Can you see the diagram shown?

On the diagram there are Blue letters in white circles marked 1A and 1B. They mark the green terminal blocks that are plugged into the Y and X stepper drivers. The stepper drivers are the black boxes in the diagram. 1A is for the Y stepper driver. 1B is for the X stepper driver.

I’d like you to swap those blocks. Then test.

i swapped the blocks and then tested the machine, the left and right arrow keys on the Ruida control pael dont work any more, if i press the up and down arrow keys the machine moves left or right, still no movement up or down

good news is both controllers light up on the diagnostic screen, so we have made some progress.

Okay. This means the controller is working correctly which is good.

Now, with the machine off, put the 1A and 1B blocks back as they were.

Next, swap 2A and 2B blocks.

Turn on machine and test. What happens?

tried that and changed blocks the machine still only move left to right using the up or down arrows

sensors are still showing as on in diagnostic

Okay. That means both X and Y stepper drivers are working. This leaves the fault at either the Y stepper motor or the Y stepper cable.

First, with the machine off, swap 2A and 2B back to their original positions.

Examine the Y stepper motor. Do the wires come directly out of the motor or is there a terminal connector there? If no connector then options are limited.

Go back to the Y stepper driver and check the 2A terminal block. Very carefully examine each wire and make sure that it’s properly seated into the terminal block. Try to check as much of the length of the wire as possible for damage along the length. If you make any adjustments to the wire then retest the machine.

If you’re not able to resolve any issues with the wire then most likely you’ll need to replace the Y stepper motor. Those motors are fairly robust, though, so a fault in the wiring is very possible.

when i look on line to people with similar problems Youtube it seems to be a common problem with these chinese lasers, and most are pointing to a loose or damaged wire, but unfortunately they dont show you were the fault occure

i will check the wiring out tomorrow, where are you located

have done all your checks as requested, and carefully looked at the wiring and connection points, cant find anything obvious that stands out.stepper motor does not have a terminal connection… where to next,

do i need to get a particular stepper motor for my laser, should I follow a part number or just a stepper motor for a 80w CO2 laser
