Y Axis will not move. 80 w CO2 laser red/Black Ruida controler

Also, can you take a very clear photo of the top of the relay with the label markers?

Is there a relay also inline with X-axis wiring?

is this the terminal block you are referring to

The only thing I can think of is that the relay is used to switch between rotary and flat gantry work but I’m not familiar with this approach.

Let’s do this as the relay is a huge variable. At this point I’m going to assume that the relay is faulty.

We will take the relay out of the equation.

  1. Remove the red, blue, black, and green wires from the terminal block. The terminal block being the green block plugged into the stepper driver.
  2. Directly connect the red, yellow, blue, green from the stepper motor into the terminal block in that order. Meaning the same order as I indicated for removal.

Test function. If this works. That means there’s almost certainly wrong with either wires connected to relay or the relay itself. Most likely the relay.

the terminal block you are referring to has two blocks left has 4 wires Red/Blu/Blk/Green
Rh side has 6 wires which one are you referring to

I will have to get more wiring the stepper motor wires are two short

I’m referring to the block at right with posts that correlate to A+, A-, B+, B- on Stepper Driver.

that didnt work when i ran it the machine made lots of grinding noises ,same as when it crashes. so i shut it down, and put everything back to normal and retested, works fine but still no up or down movement.
Youtube has a bench test for stepper motors i might try that.

Coming from the Y stepper? If so, that’s progress. It’s possible that the stepper motor that you got has different torque ratings than the one you replaced.

Actually, are you able to connect the motor that you replaced to the terminal block and test? It needn’t be installed on the machine. Just want to confirm function.

I suspect now that the problem was always at the relay.

Hi Sam, thank you for coming back! I found a solution and wonder if it will be the same for you.

Hoping this helps you buddy
are you saying connect the old motor I removed

are you saying the old motor i removed

Yes. The old motor that you removed.

Sucess at last connected the old motor and put a flag on drive shaft and tested up and down and shaft turns, OMG Maybee it was loose wires all along

do you think we are fixed, i puuled all the old wires and reseated all so maybe that helped, don’t know, should i go ahead and replace old motor… Sam

Did you connect old motor directly to terminal block or is it going through the relay? If going through the relay then it’s possible you have a partial wire break somewhere which could explain some of the behavior.

You could try just putting everything back together knowing that it’s likely an issue either with the relay or a partial break somewhere to be discovered later.

It’s also possible that there was indeed a wire loose and reseating everything has addressed it.

Sorry to step in.
As your testing is better to use WAGO instead of cutting the wire

hi Berainib put it all back together though the relay and not working so probably need to try it through the terminal block, this unbelieably difficult but i think we are closer/

So to confirm, you were not through the relay previously? If so, that pretty much confirms that the issue is either the relay or some of the intermediate wiring.

no i was not through the relay thats why we had sucess, so tomorrow i will connect to the terminal block and bypass the relay, should I connect with the current wires attached or remove them as before. Sam

If you have no use of the relay then bypass all of that and connect directly to the terminal block.

Note that wires for terminal blocks are typically terminated with crimped ferrules to keep the wire strands together and for a good electrical connection.

You are the Man Berainlb the Eagle has landed, after 139 goes you have made my life comfortable once again, total perseverance thats you thank you so much for your time and effort. one final request the arm is still crashing, how do i set up homing position as of now its sitting in the middle of the bed… Sam
