Laser not moving properly

So my DIY algolaser 10W only moves a little bit each time. When I do homing it says: ALARM:9
Homing fail. Could not find limit switch within search distance. Defined as 1.5 * max_travel on search and 5 * pulloff on locate phases.
I don’t understand this, but even if I just move it using those arrows in lightburn or laserGRBL, it only moves a little bit. Does anyone know what I can do about this?

Can you elaborate on what a DIY algolaser is?

Are you currently in the initial setup of the machine or did this at one point work? If this is initial configuration I’d suggest reviewing the steps/mm settings ($100-$102).
