I’ve just bought a leather belt engraving machine it uses 40mm diameter engraved brass rollers to imprint the design into the leather, the rollers aren’t cheap and if you want a custom design they are expensive. I have a rotary for one of my lasers so I’m going to have a go at engraving my own rollers. The material I’m thinking of using is 40mm Delrin Rod, I’ve engraved Delrin Sheet before with success, so it should work.
I do only have a roller rotary rather than a chuck one, so as multiple passes will be needed keeping things in position might be an issue.
Anyone any comments or experience they want to pass on?
I suggest you use the plans for the “Easy & Cheap 3 Jaw Rotary”. I made one for my exe-wife and she has used it more than 600 times so far with excellent results (she uses it for rolling pins, mugs and wooden spoon handles). Rather than using the rear chuck from the design, you can use the rear roller assembly from the roller rotary I designed. Both use the same Base Assembly.
The exe finds using the rear rollers better and easier for the rolling pins.
