Had a bit of an issue with my X/Y laser movement over the past few months…
Thought I would share my experience..

for a few months now, after I turn on the laser and the press X / Y buttons to,position the laser head, the Stepper motors would grind and of course loose position.
Through experience the only solution when this happens is to power down , the power back up.
If you just try to move the head it will be out of position with the controller and it could, will, crash into the end stops thinking it has more distance to go than it really does…
So turn off then back on, allowing it to re-index on the 0-origin corner and find its home position is the only safe move.

I had decided to spend a little time and re-adjust the Laser Device settings Acceleration settings…
I did this as the initial movement only had the issue it was as tho the stepper motor would skip steps seeming as there drive current was lacking, but most likely it was the actual stepper motor size, a bit too small…

None-the-less… the Acceleration factor number was 4000 so I changed it to 1000 and now , while the initial jump off is a bit slower and softer, the step skipping has been fixed… for now…

I will monitor the X/Y manual movement still, but I dont mind the new softer feel, slower but
certainly more reliable..

Just a tidbit as I cut all this acrylic and wood for frames… now back to fun ! :star_struck:

Thought I’d show the inner layer of the new frame design,
there is an inner panel with an outter small 10mm frame that is the same size as the back panel.
the top ‘L’ outline frame fits on top of these two,panels..

Makes it easy to cut as the middle layer serves as an alignment frame that gets glued to the
back panel then after UV printing the picture on the inner cutout piece, it drops back
inside and gets tacked glued before the top ‘L’ frames are glued in place…

TidBits…

COMMENT:

I don’t like to put discussions here but this has been a sore spot with me for a while now…
and I’ve mentioned it to the LB Folks a couple times…

I have wanted to see a top tool menu button to TOGGLE the Screen Background Dark / Light.

I also thought to just make a HOTKEY in the editor, but to my dismay, the Set Background toggle was
not available to make a hotkey…

Not sure if I am the only one that as the need to with many color layers both light / dark
and not being able to see them, ie. Pink on a white background or gray on a dark background..
you get the idea…

So a quick toggle would extremely handy, instead of jumping thru menus…
even a hot key, but as I mentioned, not available for hotkey …

just a comment as I said…
Hoping the LB Folks will see this and maybe have a comment or consider the options above..

Gantry Envy!

Chuck. In the picture, is that big acrylic sheet on top of the main honeycomb have a cutout to receive the small honeycomb, all to help with airflow and smoke extraction.

The large area bottom honeycomb is 1300 x 900
the smaller top honeycomb is 460 x460 that I drop in place when cut 300x300 sheets
then remove and store off behind the laser… I keep the Acrylic right angles attached
so it is easy to drop in and align the wood sheets for cutting, just lower the the bed a little for head height and the air exhaust can pull thru both honeycombs when cutting,
There is no top acrylic sheet…

  • note the 6 toes and fingers, and 7 strings…
I guess the Guitar guys would like the extra fingers for picking…
    but I wouldn’t know 'cause I’m just the Drummer…
