My new OMT-CO2 Laser Machine

@micrololin What kind of foam is that? Is that XPS? What kind of quality are you getting on the backside of the burn? How much larger is the kerf at the bottom of the cut?

I do a lot of foam cutting with a diode laser and am curious how much difference a CO2 laser would make.

I sent you a message so we donā€™t hijack this thread.

Although there is plenty of time before my new machine arrives (1st to 13th December), I started to make a small table for the machine, I succeeded and during the afternoon a message came from the freight forwarder that they are coming tomorrow , between 8 and 16. Itā€™s a surprise !!
But Iā€™m looking forward to it and Iā€™m also ready to receive the machine.

Fantastic news!

Glad you have a place to put it. I did that also and finished it just before the machine arrived.

What I didnā€™t do was paint it, Iā€™m still regretting thatā€¦

Let us know how it works when you get it up. (add pictures, pleaseā€¦)

Is your chiller going to be on that also?

Good luck, take careā€¦

I want to make some pictures just like when I got my K40, itā€™s nice to have proof if something is broken ā€¦ The small stand for the machine should not be painted, I think it looks nice ā€œnaturaā€; - )
Many years ago I made a large desk with the same material, but sanded very thoroughly and gave the table top 4 times varnish, with sanding every time, it was so nice ā€¦ I lost it and much else in a storm disaster a few years ago .

Mine is fabricated from 2" square metal tubing, so it rustsā€¦ :frowning:

Yours looks very nice, wasnā€™t suggesting you paint yours, just something I wish I had done.

Take lots of pictures, theyā€™re pretty cheap, just time consuming to stop and take them.

Can you put the chiller on the stand with it?

The machine is in the basement! I got a shock because a forklift has stuck one fork through the wood wrap in the transit, but there are only very small marks in the laser and the tube itself looks intact.
I have peeled off all loose parts and removed the laser tube, to reduce the weight as much as possible and because I do not want to risk the tube breaking on the last small steps, down into the basement.
I am surprised that almost all metal parts are thinner as with my only 3 year old K40 and this also applies to the cables. But I have not been able to inspect the whole machine thoroughly, yet.

Does it require a switch or crossover cable to connect the KT332N to the computer or is a normal lan cable ok?
(ā€¦ I have not come this far, but itā€™s nice to know)

I didnā€™t need one for the Lightburn Bridge. I just use the USB cable.

I have used both and both work fine.

Do you mean the cables that come with it?

I have spent a few hours checking and fixing the electricity, the problem is that it looks like the manufacturer has used the same size of cable sleeves (red) for all types of cable. The cable sleeve just gets an extra pressure with the crimping pliers ā€¦ Two fell out without me pulling hard and a cable was not tight and only held because lots of glue was used. No description at all on the cables and all 230Volt cable lugs are relatively loose and the 3 rocker switches are also so loose that they probably fall out at some point. But the ground connection works well everywhere, throughout the machine, it was a problem with many machines before.
Now I feel so safe (on the electrical side) that I want to turn on power.
A completely new type of air pump has been installed, which I have not seen before, it will be interesting to hear and test it.
The most disappointing is the tin profile on which the tube is mounted, it is so thin and unstable that it is number 1 on my work list. I can bend it with my little finger approx. 1mm without special force efforts.

(ā€¦ be indulgent with my miserable English and ask if there is anything completely incomprehensible, thank you)

Yes, but I setup my laptop for an employee and bought a 50 foot LAN cable.

Thatā€™s the style I have. Itā€™s decent to be fair. Probably around 800LPH but I donā€™t have a way to measure it.

YIKES on how thin it is. Even mine is a bit more sturdy than that.

I donā€™t understand the hot gluing thing at all.

Since the 90ā€™s the hardware has had the ability to determine the Ethernet configuration. Unlikely that any old hardware is around that still needs a turn around cable to get it to connect.

Iā€™ve plugged it right into my machine, no issues.

I have mounted my laser tube in place again and also leveled the height and direction. It will never get really good until I replace the thin metal sheet with something else.
Unfortunately I updated my LightBurn license too late and now it is not ready yet, it is my own fault. So Iā€™m going to learn Ruida clone language to be able to test my machine.
However, I have also had life in the machine, it homers fine and even in the same corner as my K40, so no re-learning here. The cooling machine is connected and there are no leaks, the air bubbles have also quickly disappeared so theoretically I could continue to laser beam alignment ā€¦
The mounted air pump provides relatively little air, but it does not make much noise. The built-in fan, in turn, does just that. Unfortunately, I have not found an on / off switch, physically or in the software yet.
The aluminum profile where the timing belt runs in is filled with chips, I have to blow it clean before I get too many chips pressed into the belt. This is not good workmanship.

There should be a test file in the controller. If it came with a USB stick mine had several test projects on it.

Thanks Jeff, Iā€™m just going to look into that.
Have you found a switch to turn off the original built-in extractor?
